Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

I've been looking at the Alphason FW1350

Alphason | Finewoods Series - Model: FW1350-BV/B

and I wondered if anyone had any experience of these - are they decent quality?

Thanks,

Colin

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

Ive got the Alphason FW1100, yeah superb quality, have a peek at the pics in my sig for a look at it. Obviously the FW1350 is the same just 250mm wider. I say go for it, In real life looks a lot more expensive than it is.
Brilliant buy.
Bought mine form hifibitz.co.uk for £279

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

Fella, I have one. Absolutely cracking stand. Superb quality and looks very nice. So much so the Mrs had some of her mates round and they all commented how good it looked, so it passed the SWMBO test!! Have a look at the My Setup! link in my signature for some pictures.

If you need any more info on it please ask. I also have the assembly instructions in PDF format after I emailed Alphason for them as they are not on the website.

Oh I got mine from Stand and Deliver - excellent service.

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

Brilliant, thanks guys, that's just the sort of info I was looking for!

Cosby, looks like I've got a similar setup to you except my TV is a 42" Panny and Amp is a Yamaha 465. I've just picked up the same sub as you but matched it to some Monitor Audio R45HD's and a R180 centre speaker which I'm planning to put on the top shelf like your KEF.

How deep is the Onkyo amp, as the depth of the unit is the only thing concerning me as the Yamaha doesn't fit very well in my old cabinet?

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

Here mate, chek it out here states all sizes depth widths etc. Cheaper now too, the FW1350 was 299 a while ago.

Alphason FW1350 Finewoods Flat Panel TV Stand

EDIT - Just noticed u wanted to know about the Onkyo depth and not shelf size etc, Dont have big av amp, but reckon it gonna fit fine. Plenty deep enuf for most i reckon as i got at least 150mm space at back of my amp, not an AV amp but similar in size i think depth wise.

This might help you:

http://www.standanddeliver.com/acata...sionshires.jpg

Depth is in there so you can compare to your amp. But as most amps are about the same size, think you will be ok.

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

I'll be getting the 1350 in walnut delivered today. I went to see the cabinet at a showroom first and it really is one of the only cabinets I've even vaguely liked lol.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I'm also getting the Alphason coffee table from the Aspect series delivered today. I know the styling doesn't match but the wood veneer in walnut will be an exact match. I struggled to find a nice coffee table so hopefully this one will look ok.

(now I just have to wait another two months and a bit for my fricken sofa to pitch up! LOL!)

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

Great, thanks. I think I'm pretty set on this one now, the only thing I'm unsure about is whether or not the new Sky HD box I should be getting on Saturday will be noisy or not. The Sky+ box isn't too bad in an open cabinet, so I'm hoping the HD will be the same, but I'm just waiting to see before I press the button on the order!

Where did you order yours from by the way and did you get a good price?

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

OK - so I decided to go for this cabinet in the end, and I'm really pleased with it (and perhaps more importantly so is my wife!). The build quality is excellent and it looks great - I've included a couple of photo's now it's built and in situ.

I thought I might have to make a bigger hole in the back panel, but my Yamaha 465 amp fits perfectly in the cabinet with no stress on any of the connectors on the rear

It was nice to see that the cabinet even comes with 4 adjustable feet which I didn't expect. I'd certainly recommend this to anyone else looking for this sort of cabinet.

Thanks for the help guys

Glad you like it mate. It's a rock solid unit and looks great. Your setup looks very nice on it.

The adjustable feet were handy for me too!

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

Like the setup guys.

I too really like the Alphason FW1350 and would like to replace my existing Ikea Oppli unit with one. However the Mrs is worried it wouldn't suit any furniture we've got or are planning to get. Its a shame that Alphason also don't make coffee tables.

Hi,
Thinking of getting this cabinet only problem is that my HTPC is 460cm deep, can you leave the back of the cabinet? also got a 42inch panny and kef egg speakers is there enough room to put 2 eggs on the top shelf one either side of the tv. i think there is just want to double check.
Cheers,
Steve

I dont know about the speakers but Ive asked similar questions about the back panel. My amp is 420mm deep (isnt 4.6m rather a big HTPC?) and wouldnt fit with all the cables etc.

Ive been told it would be fairly easy to cut a larger hole in the back panel or alternatively leave it off altogether.

Do you mean sitting the "eggs" on the top of the cabinet, directly next to the TV, rather than on the internal shelf?

If so, there is 15cm of space either side of my Panny 42" plasma when it's placed in the centre of the 1350 unit.

Hope that helps.

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

yes mate was going to put the eggs on the top shelf with the tv.

the htpc case is a zalman 160xt its a bit of a beast its bigger than my denon 3802. thought about getting a smaller case, but if i can leave the back off that would solve the problem.
cheers,
steve

You can definately leave the back off, or make a bigger hole.

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

Here is a few pictures as you can see needs tidying up a bit. Plenty of room for all my kit. I decided to leave the back off completely for ventilation not that you can really see anyway.
Must admit i am really please with it and looks and feels like a nice solid stand.
Cost me £240.
The finish is walnut.

Kit on the stands includes:
42" Panasonic Plasma
Denon 3802 Amp
Zalman 160XT HTPC
Sky HD
Xbox 360 Elite
Panasonic BDP-80 Blueray Player
Toshiba Video
Kef Eggs

Cheers

Stevie 12....I have been interested in this product for a while now and i am looking for info on shelve sizes. I have decided to get a Yamaha ysp 40d as i would like to fit it on the top shelve, can you give any info as what the size from the top shelve to the underside of the main top is??..and can it be adjusted..The ysp 40d is 198mm in height, so i`m hoping this will fit.
Cheers.

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

Hi,

The shelf is adjustable, you have two options one leaves 100mm between the underside of the top shelf and the middle shelf, the the shelf can be positioned lower leaving a 165mm gap. We have a good quality image of the Alphason Finewoods on our website, if you look closely you can make out the holes in the wood panels of the interior, I guess there would be nothing stopping you from drilling you own holes if you have abit of DIY skill.

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

Thanks Cosby,
I do see that the total height would only be 165mm which is a bit short of 198mm. The other way round this is to reposition the screw holes to fit 198mm. Does the existing holes have captive nuts embedded within the side panels??

Cheers.

Hi,

No they are just simple holes, you simply put pins inside the holes.

Could any existing owners please let me know if it's possible (via a bit of DIY ingenuity) to enclose this stand? Just seen it in Richer Sounds and it looks very nice but I need to keep my gear away from my little boy!

Re: Alphason Finewoods cabinets - any good?

I've got the same issue as BizzyBee, I would like to house a MA Silver centre speaker which is about 190mm high.... so if you could let me know how you get on with your DIY adjustment it would be appreciated.

It is a nice stand though.
