Question Bluray player with Sony DAV-DZ260 surround system

Hello,
I want to add a Blu Ray player and a Freesat+HD box to my existing system, but don't understand how to get 5.1 sound from both the Freesat box and the Blu-ray into the Sony.
The existing setup comprises a Toshiba 45RV555 HDTV with 3 HDMI inputs,a Freeview+ box connected to the TV by Scart, and to the Sony DAV-DZ260 surround DVD player via a scart to RCA audio cable. The Freeview+ box will be ditched in the new setup.

I plan to use an HDMI cable from each of the Sony DZ260, the new Blu-ray and the Freesat+ box into the TV, but the Sony surround system only has one digital coax input. Is there any way to get 5.1 sound from all sources please?

Thanks very much for your help.
Rob

Re: Bluray player with Sony DAV-DZ260 surround system

The 260 also has a optical input you can use that for the freesat box and the digital coax for your bluray.

Re: Bluray player with Sony DAV-DZ260 surround system

Thanks for that suggestion.
I read on a Sony forum that digital coax or optical doesn't support 5.1 LPCM (which I was surprised at.) I would expect an HD freesat receiver and a Blu-ray box to both transmit 5.1 over their digital audio outputs??
Will the DZ260 receive 5.1 over both these inputs or just expect to Dolby decode a 2-channel signal?

Thanks very much.

This is correct it won't accept 5.1 encoded as LPCM. Optical and Coax only have the bandwidth to support 2.0 LPCM. But see below, all is not lost.

You get the 5.1 over optical or coax as the bitstream encoded Dolby Digital or DTS signal. The 5.1 LPCM signal is available from Bluray players via its HDMI output when the player decodes this bitstream first.

So the DAV 260 doesn't support 5.1 as LPCM, but does support it as Dolby Digital or DTS.
