Sony strdb1070 - £20? any good

I currently have a 'Sherwood RVD-8090RDS' powering a couple of 'Mission m73'

Not a great setup but I made it for peanuts and it certainly isn't terrible!

A freind has offered me a Sony STRDB1070 for £20, anyone know if this will be an improvement.

Setup is used mostly for stero music output via Coax.

Cheers.

I'm not a fan of Sony, but it's got to be worth comparing for £20!!

Yep to the above but maybe suggest that you could get a much better second hand proper stereo amp for around the same spondoolicks?

Well yeah the Sony is without a doubt an improvement upon your Sherwood, but to be quite honest set up on 2 speakers you are entirely waisting your time with both of these reiceivers. If your intention is just 2 speakers I seriously suggest you even flog the Sherwood you've got, and get an HiFi stereo amp, because to be quite honest AV Amp's and Recievers are really made for surround sound, and will not produce, or even go half way to producing a good stereo sound compared with a stereo Amplifer.

However if you are planning to set up more speakers on the Amp and use a decent DVD player with DTS and Dolby Digital Decoders on it, then by all means get the Sony. And this way the AV Amp will blow any standard stereo amp into next week as regarding seperation. But just to have 2 speakers set up on an AV Amp your are seriously not putting to use what could be a very good Amp, and certainly not getting any real performance out of it.

I know a stero amp would be far better for ym current music purposes - however very few stero amps seem to have coax or sp/dif connections, which is a must have as far as i'm concerned. If anybody can redcommend a decent second ahdn stero amp that does I'd be greatful.

There are none, unless you want to add a couple of zeros on the end. Buy the Sony for £20, sell the Sherwood for £20, enjoy the free upgrade.

Re: Sony strdb1070 - £20? any good

So what's everyones opinion on which would serve me better:

=Analouge Computer Output (3.5m jack to stero) - stero amp - Stero speakers

=Digital Computer Output (coax or sp/dif) - AV Reciever - Stero Speakers

Re: Sony strdb1070 - £20? any good

It really depends on the amp in question, but more importantly the sound card. I would put my money on digital out from the computer to an AV Receiver sounding far better, even just for stereo sound.
