need help with system

Hi everyone!

Yes, I´m new and dont have a clue. Have been passive for too long and would really like some opinions regarding sound!!

I have at present:

Denon 3805

Sony dvd (old)

Meridian CD 206 (b)

Nubert Speakers (German, very neutral sounding with good bass)

I love the sound of the Meridian/Denon on PURE DIRECT but

what advantages are to be had by adding a pre or power ?

Can that be done with the Denon?

If so, how would the sound change ie does it take on the character of the new bit (ie pre or power)?

Going into hifi shops isn´t an option, so please help!!!

Many thanks,
S.
