Pioneer VSX-LX70 - PCM, not Dolby Digital plus/HD?

hi, any idea why the screen on my LX70 shows 'PCM' and not 'Dolby True HD' or 'Dolby Digital Plus' when watching the appropriate HD-DVDs, connected through HDMI?

FWIW i'm not using 7.1, just 5.0 but this doesn't make a difference does it?

Try checking the setup menu on the sammy. Sounds like it might be set to pcm. Set it to bitstream.

I'm pretty sure the factory spec EP30 cannot send HD Codecs via bitstream, only PCM

Unlike Bluray, HD DVD has manadatory onboard decoding of TrueHD. Your player is decoding the TrueHD and sending the decoded stream (PCM) over HDMI. You are hearing the HD sound, and everything is working as it should.
