Bass issue with Sony STR-DG910

I hooked up my Sony STR-DG910 to my Mordaunt Short Alumni set this morning and it sounds great - except i have one problem.

The bass feels really weak. In the manual for the amp it tells me that if my sub has an "auto off" function, i should have this function off. If i turn it off, my sub shows a red light as if it is turned off. If i turn the above function on, the sub turns on. The sub by the way is turned up to the max and is set at +6 on the amp.

I've tested it with a PS3, Xbox 360 and my record decks.

Record decks are fine and the bass thumps out.
Xbox 360 is fine (except for some videos DL'd from Live where the bass is very feint).
PS3 - Almost non existent. I've changed the audio to auto through HDMI but it still sounds weak.

Can anyone please give me some advice on how to fix this?

i used to have the 910 hooked up to my mordaunt short 309 sub and had no such problems, i go plenty bass from the sub. Now with my ms sub when i use it i switch it to the always on position and not auto.

With the ps3 go to the sound options menu and choose manual instead of auto and make sure all the pcm 5.1 boxes are ticked, also go to the disc settings menu and set the ps3 to send pcm audio over hdmi so you can listen to hd audio.

Thanks for the note - i get great bass but it seems to be quite inconsistent.

Movies sound great as do trailers (on the PS3) but games dont seem to have the same level of bass. Is that something to do with the settings of the amp?

its the way the ps3 decodes the audio from games, try this to see if its any better, go back to the audio settings menu and select custom, then untick all the pcm 5/6/7.1 leaving the dolby digital box ticked, this forces the ps3 to send the digital audio from the game to your amp to decode and the amp should say dolby digital when playing game whereas if set the other way it will say pcm, just remember to retick all the boxes for bluray.
