Firstly I am connecting my 606 to a set of 5 Tannoy CMS401E ceiling speakers. I'm totally confused about how to set the speakers, the Tannoy website says in the manual (http://www.tannoy-speakers.com/produ...401-manual.pdf)

"Use the rotary switch located on the front of the unit to select whether you wish to use
the speaker in a low-impedance or distributed-line application.

THE SPEAKER IS SUPPLIED IN LOW IMPEDANCE MODE. NEVER CONNECT THE
SPEAKER TO A 70/100 VOLT AMPLIFIER WHILE IT IS SET FOR LOW IMPEDANCE.
All CMS401e and CMS401 DCe models use a 30W transformer. When using distributedline
systems, the transformer can be tapped at 30W, 15W and 7.5W, with an additional
3.75W tapping for 70.7V line systems."

So what do I set the speakers to for this amp?

Also can I use banana plugs to connect the 606 to the speakers?

Low impedence if the speakers are connected directly to the AV amp speaker outputs.

The speakers are going directly into the amp, so I don't change anything?

What does the bit about never never connecting a 70/100 volt amp mean?

Not sure. Is there not a spec sheet with them or online to tell you their impedence? They should typically be 4, 6 or 8 ohm. My 606 was set to 6 or over but in the menus you can also select under 6 to cover all bases.

I use QED Airloc plugs (silver anniversary xt cable). You have to pull the little black caps out first on the speaker posts on the amp - i found a small electrical screwdriver did the trick.

70/100 volt line amps are specialist amps used in places like airports for tannoy systems of that horrible background music you often hear in hotels etc. Your AV amp does NOT support 70/100volt line amplification.
If you brought a speaker for a Hi-Fi it would be 4-8 ohms impedance and NOT 70/100volt line. Those speakers you have are a dual use item.

OK so as I understand it I leave the speakers in low impedance mode and just plug them in and go?
