dieing to no !! if its good then I will buy it if not I will get the 805 and let my PT-AE1000 do the scaling
i own an 875.
the hqv brings out a bit more detail on SD. your ptae1000 will scale better on blu ray or hd dvd from what i have read about your pj.

Why do Blu Rays and HD-DVD's need scaling?

Was I being too fussy asking for a personality AND a sense of humour? :P:P:P

What do I mean? Well..... I'm not so sure I have set it up so well and am a bit con concerned as to whether I am getting the most out of it, SO...

I am offering one person who is reasonably "in the know" the opportunity to come and have a look/listen/play. I see this as a two way opportunity as they would get the chance to see the 875 in action and form an opinion and also I will get the peace of mind that it is all set up right and I know how to operate it properly.

All applicants must be in possesion of a personality and a sense of humour :P:P:P:P

Anyone interested? Would be probably looking at one night this coming week.

I wish the Onkyo rep would comment on the fact that the next model (905)up is being made available for about 1600 dollars in the USA ..about £800 and we are still being asked for £1000 for this model... An utter rip off !!... the usual rip off reasons will offered as usual!!

This is so tiresome. Every time a new bit of kit is launched, someone always brings this up and its boring. Why not start a thread about rip-of Britain and how all electricals are over priced, and leave the thread on topic.

Re: Onkyo 875 owners thread

Is the 905 not £1400, which is indeed more than the Us pay.

It's still off topic though

Re: Onkyo 875 owners thread

I'm getting one through work for about £800 but i've got to wait until the 18th of august. I was going to get a Denon 3808 as I've had a 3805 in the past, but i've heard the 875 has better video processing , and after reading a review of it in Home cinema choice I'm pretty much sold.

Re: Onkyo 875 owners thread

I currently have and arcam avr 300, which to my ears sounds great. When i bought it i was listening to 50/50 music/movies, these days its more 20/80 music/movies. I know i would benifit from the video processing and the hdmi switching and eq set up.Does anybody know how the 875 compares to the arcam avr300 in the sound department?. More interested in the movie side of things these days.

My current set up is Arcam Avr 300, dynaudio 62s, 42ws (x4), 42c, bk monolith. Sources are sky hd, hd-dvd, HTPC with bluray, arcam dv88+, 360, wii, etc etc

The fact that he is a mod does not give him the right to rubbish my views and opinions. If someone is rude to me then I will tell them so. If i get banned then so be it.. im getting a Yamaha anyway!!

Although "the mod's" reply was abrupt he was entirely correct.
Thanks for your contribution and off to the Yamaha thread you go.

Re: Onkyo 875 owners thread

No it does not, and I agree his post was a bit rude.

But it was not a personal attack, which your post is.

Anyway, I want an 875 and £1000 does not seem bad at all in my view.

There is 1 thing you could do.
you could buy it from abroad, and see how much support and warranty you will have.
or buy it from the UK,and have a good warranty period, support for the model, for repairs/replacements/general support.
or
like you say,go and buy the Yamaha.
but if you do continue to post in this thread...Please keep it on Topic.
any more personal attacks/public criticism towards a moderator will not be tolerated.
ive given you 5 points for that last post, any more attacks/nonsense,and it will be an automatic ban.

RF.

Re: Onkyo 875 owners thread

Perhaps my post was a little abrupt, but it seems a lot of good threads are ruined by off topic posts, and on subjects that are repeated over and over.

I'm sorry if it appeared rude, that wasn't my intention

Cool! Am I correct in thinking it's a choice between bi-amping the front L+R and run it 5.1 OR run it 7.1 without bi-amping?

LOL! Probably best to just do what we all do Barnsleyben. Ask questions on specifics and hope for answers. At least you've got yours up and running. I'm still waiting on my order. You should be telling the rest of us what fun you are having with this awesome bit of kit. I'd like to know how you find the upscaling of SD feeds like Sky 1 or National Geo Wild and what kind of display you are targetting. I'm planning to use my 875 to drive one of the new Philips Aurea 42" LCD's.

EDIT: Ah, see you've a 50" LG. That should be a pretty good test for the REON with a good SD feed.

Re: Onkyo 875 owners thread

hi guys, whilst i am holding out for the 905 i got to demo my mates 875 . my mate is dean999 a fellow member. from what i've heard so far i was really impressed and envious of you 875 owners out there. he was playing blu ray on his panasonic player and the sound was output via coax for 5.1 audio. however when connecting the player to the amp with hdmi for uncompressed audio we could only get 2 ch stereo? everything on the player and amp was set to pcm but only output stereo. the display on the amp was showing pcm at 48khz. any ideas?

secondly his 'enter' button on the remote seems knackered i.e. he can make it move in all directions but will not funtion when pressed down?

Thanks for your contribution and off to the Yamaha thread you go.

On the contrary I look forward to all the popping/delay discussions however boring and tiresome I might be and I will comment on anything I think relevant. Practically every thread in the forum goes off on a tangent at some time so why should this be any different

And to the mods I guess we all say things that sound worse than they are.

Hi. Took the time to read this "Owners thread??". Thought it might be full of useful information. So far apart from a few short contributions there has been nothing but utter rubbish and childish sniping. So where are the owners then???

Morning

I agree it will be good to see some more owner's thoughts on this model.

Stocks only reached UK dealers last week so with delivery timescales only a few of these have reached customers so far. Hopefully over the next few days there will be other contributors as more arrive. It is already proving to be a popular model which will only be helped with it gaining reference status in the latest Home Cinema Choice magazine.

That is correct because the surround left and right get used to bi-amp the fronts when in 5.1 mode should you require it.
