Sky HD into Pioneer AX2AS = no dolby digital?
Hi all,
Have just invested in my new set up after researching forums on here. I think I read that HDMI leads only transmit stereo from the HD box to the amp so I have used an optical lead from the Sky HD box to my amp, but still only receive stereo when the Sky info button states I should be receiving Dolby Digital.
Am using HDMI leads from both the DVD player and the Sky box into the amp, then one HDMI cable out to the screen, which only has one HDMI input :-(
Can anybody point me in the right direction on how to get dobly digital from my Sky box please? DVD's seem to play fine.
Peter

Have you got the Sky box optical out set to dolby digital rather than stereo?

aye, go in to sound setup options on the Sky box and make sure it says Dolby D or Dolby Digital......
also try a few different films etc to make sure, sometimes the sky planner says DD and isnt...lol
then make sure your amp is set to Auto instead of PCM or something.....
should then work to be honest.....

Sky box is set to optical out and to dolby digital rather than stereo - amp is set to auto select - perhaps as you suggest the Sky planner was wrong on the 3 or 4 films I have checked so far :-(

Re: Sky HD into Pioneer AX2AS = no dolby digital?
dont forget that only if it says DD in the info bar on the program will it be Dolby Digital, if it says DS (Dolby Surround) that isnt the same, thats just a Pro Logic encoding.....not as good, altho in some cases not all bad either..lol
otherwise i'm not sure how to help....might be worth getting a dealer to check it out....
try a bunch more films tho

Re: Sky HD into Pioneer AX2AS = no dolby digital?
I think the problem lies with the way you have the HDMI port on your amp configured. The amp is using the HDMI sound instead of the optical sound. You will have to disable the sound part of the HDMI signal.
I have similar amp but at the moment have the HDMI cable running directly to the television rather than the amp and have optical from sky hd box into the amp. If you ring poineer tech support they will tell you how disable hdmi sound. Let me know how you get on.
Regards,
Noel

Similar AMP to mine. Go into the SETUP menu and choose Input Config (or similar). You can then scroll through each input and select where the audio source for each is connected. You will need to change it from HDMI to the Optical Input.
Problem I have is that the HDMI switching doesn't work when using HDCP (like SKY HD). Sky box will moan that device is not HDCP compliant so I have to connect directly to my projector - not through the AMP which is a PIA.
