Anyone can recommend me which amp to pick for the given system (Rega RS 1 with Marantz CD 6004)?
Later on Im planning to add a sub also I dont know if the ones like 6003 and 5004 permit me to do that or not Ive no idea at all either how to do it without dedicated subwoofer out.

Thanks,

Viktor

Rega Brio R......punches well above the marantz amps

The PM500n and the PM600n have the same power, but the PM600n has a better power supply and better components. But the difference in price is substantial, and the available PM6003 is diminishing all the time, though the prices on the older models is attractive.

Can you give us a working BUDGET? That might allow us to suggest other amps that would work.

If you are looking at the PM6004, that implies you have up to £300 to spend. There are several might impressive amp just under £300. Some with substantially more power than the Marantz.

The older PM6003 seem to be running about £220 to £250, and are probably a good bargain, and I wouldn't expect there to be that much difference between the PM6004 and the older PM6003.

The Rega RS1 have a fairly high Sensitivity of ~90db, and an 80 watt power rating. It should not really take a beast of an amp to drive them.

You also want to consider the features you need. It seems you need a Sub Out. Do you need a PHONO input? Do you want or need Tone Controls?

And of course, a direct clear statement of the working budget.

You've got speakers that cost nearly £500/pr. Yet you are looking at amp as low as £170. Though admittedly, you are considering amps as high as £300. So, again, we need to get the working budget cleared up.

Another amp worth considering is the Yamaha AS500 with 85w/ch, Sub out, Phono In, and selling for about £239.

If you want an ultra high feature set, with tons of power, consider the Harman Kardon HK3490, AM/FM, 120w/ch, High Current Power Supply, DAC with Optical/Coaxial inputs, Sub out, Phono In, Pre-Amp out, Main Amp In, etc... all for £279.

There is the Onkyo A9377 digital amp with 80w/ch for £245 -

I know it's out of your budget but the Rega Brio R is a superb little amp and works remarkably well with the RS1!

Hi,

thanks, the working budget is exactly 300 euros more or less (300 pounds lets say).

Yes phono in i need for later to be able to connect s turntable and sub out would be a great neat feature for future upgrade also.

I was lucky with the Rega RS1 cause it was 50% from original price in the store, new, with garantee, it cost me 300 euros instead of 600 euros.

Harman Kardon HK3490 359 euros With discount or Harman Kardon HK 980 329 euros. They both in my budget margin. and both are discounted from the 500-600 euro range right now.

Cable wise i tought of QED cables and Plugs for the speakers and RCA Wise too (QED XTC with AirlockBM plugs) and QED Performance Audio RCA/rCA cable between cd and amp too

With this working budget i may wait another month to get a cd unit for the amp, speaker combo, meanwhile i have to use it with jack out rca in line in mode with my mac it seems to listen/passthrough some music ;)

Viktor

I guess i d go with HD 980 with HK 980 combo....If later on i want a receiver i get a DAB+ one....I want an amp to be an amp and i guess that 80w on 8ohms for my Rega RS1 would be more than enough for Rolling Stones :)
