Incase it helps anyone

Re: Menu button

Menu/GUI won't display: The Denon remote comes preloaded to control several commonly used devices. In order to get the AVR GUI/menu to display you must first press the "AMP" button and then the "Menu" button to let the remote know you want the menu from the AMP as opposed to another devices menu. Also note, there is an issue with the NET/USB GUI showing up as noted in post #4 in this thread, otherwise, in some cases unplugging the AVR for a few minutes will resolve the issue.

Question re pre outs.
Picked up my 2312 from rs yesterday. Great amp. Still tweaking the settings to get best for stereo music.
Can anyone clarify for me the pre outs on the unit for zone 2. Can these by used to add an additional dedicated music amp? Advise would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I'm not an owner but am very tempted to get one of these. I have a few of questions:

1. Will I be able to find AirPlay from iTunes if the unit is in standby, or do I need to switch it on before it will show up?
2. Will the unit automatically switch to the AirPlay source if I choose to play something from a computer?
3. I'm a bit of a tidy freak and must admit the only thing putting me off is that I need to use Ethernet instead of WiFi... The router is a long way away so I'll need a fairly long cable. Does anyone know if there's any chance the new models will have WiFi when they are announced in a few months?

Thanks!

1. Yes the unit will start up and play your music from standby.
2. Yes it automatically plays at AirPlay source
3. Have no idea!

Yes if u have a 5.1 system u can use the other two channels for a music amp, bi wire or additional stereo speakers!

Hi, re the question on trailing wires etc., I got around this by connecting a wireless access point to the Denon as a repeater/bridge, so only a short ethernet cable required.

Whilst Airplay works "ok" this way it is no substitute for playing my music via iCloud and Apple TV. That is completely clean by comparison i.e. no break-ups/signal loss.

Spent the afternoon yesterday doing configuration and getting to know the amp better. It really is superb and has brought out the best in everything I have tried on it

Brilliant, thanks for your answers! Just what I was hoping for Guy in Richer Sounds obviously didn't know what he was talking about

I have another question...

4. Since I am running a Samsung LED TV, I have to add about 140ms of delay time to my sources to get correct lip sync. I also have a feed to a TV in the dining room, but at the moment I have to turn down the lounge volume while watching in there or vice versa, otherwise the delay gets annoying. Can I set a delay for the video signal on Zone 2? I know it's a long shot, but would be amazing if I could EDIT: I just had a look at the specs and it appears that Zone 2 output is audio only. That's fine anyway, but could someone confirm? Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the reply, I'm actually talking about the zone 2 pre-outs rather than the speaker channels. I listen to music as much as movies, and I am hoping to eventually get a stereo amp with pre ins to power my front speakers. There has been a lot of discussion about the lack of preouts on the 2312, but mine appears to have them. My question is, can these preouts be used for the function I mentioned above?

Thanks in advance,

Al

Strange, the only talk I've seen about the lack of pre-outs has been for the 1912, which is one of the reasons I've decided to go for the 2312 instead.

I don't have one, but I'm 99% sure the 2312 has pre-outs, and these may be used on any other equipment that takes phono inputs, including another amp. I use pre-outs on my old Yamaha receiver into another amp in the dining room.

Thanks for the reply. I'm specifically looking for the facility to be able to connect the front speakers in my 5.1 setup (currently bi-amped rightly or wrongly through the Denon) via an additional dedicated stereo amp, acting independently when listening to music (CDs etc), but the acting as a power amp of sorts when watching movies, so the denons controller still controls audio. I know this can be done with high end receivers, such as the 3312, and higher end marantz, onkyo and yamahas, but are the zone 2 preouts on the 2312 suitable for this purpose?

Make sure you press AMP first. Sometimes menu takes some time to appear...

Does anyone have any problems with the amp saving your settings? I have went into the menu setting and turned off dynamic volume but it always seems to come back on when I leave the amp for a night and come back to it! Also I change the centre width in surround parameters and it does the same??

Lorty I'm not having such problems - touch-wood. I have installed the latest firmware though - have you done the same?

Also do me a favour please mate, I've just rearranged my rack and in the process have got the kettle leads mixed up for the amp and the PS3. Will you confirm please what size fuse is in the lead for the amp? I've got one with a 5-am and one with a 13-amp. Unfortunately the user-manual is no help and I don't really want to take any chances..

Cheers Lorty. Re: the issues you're having, I would then suggest a system reset. Don't know the procedure but it's in the manual somewhere. Should hopefully sort it out for you.

Cheers mate - thanks for clearing that up. Very strange that the PS3 uses a 13-amp fuse though.

Great AVReceiver but Im having some issues

Hello there

I've owned my 2312 for about 5 weeks now after a3801 that I owned from new. The guy in the store told me not too buyit as he claimed my B&W603S3s would not be driven effectivelycompared to the 3801. As the output per channel is higher on the 2312I thought this guys trying to sell me what he wants me to buy (Highend Onkyo or Pioneer) and stuck to my guns.

Very glad I did. When I first turned it on withoutsetting it up I must admit I thought Oh no he's right. After doingthe 8 point Audessy setup however I can honestly say it brought my7.1 B&W set up to life. Balanced perfectly, sounds fantastic.
Using the Zone2 preouts for my wireless headphones allows me to getaway from the rubbish the missus usually watches. Awesum.

Now for the issues, Is there anyone out there whois having to reset there 2312 as often as me. Most days I end uphaving to pull the Power Cable out of the back as the system oftencompletely freezes on me usually if I’ve used Airplay. It is quiteunpredictable when it will do it and its nots something I canrecreate but switching at some point from Airplay to another sourceseems to have something to do with it. I have just managed three dayswithout a freeze but I didn’t use Airplay during this time. Today Iused it and later on it froze. I have the latest firmware, updatedwithout a problem.

I spoke to Denon in Ireland who told me no oneelse has contacted them about it. Shame I thought as I was hoping tohear a fix was coming in a new firmware upgrade.

Am I alone with this problem? Grateful forreplies.

I have no problems with AirPlay at all never had to resent it once! What r u using it on? iPhone it pc? Could be your network connection? I would try to change the source and check your network speeds if it's still giving u problems get a new amp!

Ok I too am having a couple of issues. My unit doesn't freeze but occasionally when I turn it on, the GUI does not show on-screen. I therefore have to turn off from mains to get this back. Has done this 3 times since I've had it (3 weeks).

Problem 2 is that occasionally the channel levels will reset back to what they were when I first ran the setup wizard. This is more annoying as I have to set them up again to my liking.

I will raise a ticket with Denon support and let you know of what I get back.

Interesting thread. I have mine on order from exceptional av since 5th Jan, I paid £450 and it's still out of stock. Hopefully it should arrive within the next 7 days I'm told.

It's your router not the amp. It's a known problem with airplay and Denon and Marantz amps it also manifests itself with dlna audio and internet radio ocassionally. Can't remember exactly what it's doing but I think the router is effectively shutting down the network driver in the AVR and thats why a complete power removal is what fixes it. There are a few brands of router that work properly (normally the better 'networking manufacturers eg not Belkin my piece of crap causes my AV7005 to spaz occasionally when listening to internet radio!). Netgear being one of the ones I'd be purchasing, I think Cisco routers are one of the others. Do a search on here.

Regarding issue where GUI doesn't work..... Do you mean the menu doesn't display when when pressed?

If so press the amp button first then try again
