I had this issue as well and just bought an adapter to use Ethernet over Power. Works great so I can now hard wire the 1602.

Hi all,

Just bought this today - all good except a fairly major issue with Sky HD

Keep getting the "this TV is not HDCP compliant" message when hooked up to the amp (Sky->amp->TV). TV is a Samsung D8000 and has worked fine connected directly to sky before.

Happens sporadically - will work for 10 mins, then stop and give the error message. Or if I switch sources away from and back to sky it will often give the error message.

Have done the Sky "HDCP" reset (i.e. reset the box and TV) - no help.
Have tried various combinations of HDMI cables - no luck.

Works if I hook up Sky direct to the TV and have optical plugged into the amp - but I really only want one HDMI hooked up to the TV!

Any help / advice greatly appreciated!

Please let me know how you get on - I gave up and plugged hdmi into a different socket on the tv...

Would love to get it sorted though!

I'm thinking about upgrading my Fronts. The 50 watts should be enough to power a pair of Monitor Audio BX5's I guess?

So far very happy with the receiver, and especially the seamless Airplay

you need to use DLNA to share music with the latest update the amp also shows photos.

also don't forget the iPhone app that controls the amp

Marantz DHCP Proplems

Bought NR1602 in October 2011 and have same problems as others and I have a 5yr Pioneer Plasma which has been completely checked out by engineers and confirmed I have no problem with TV, same for Sky HD+ box which works fine until one conects the NR1602 using HDMI.problems seem to be with Marantz box which has DHCP fault.

Do we have any news on these HDCP issues? I am very keen to purchase one but have been put off by the most irritating HDCP bug it seems.

Hi,

I suggest you drop an email to Marantz support - sky have been next to useless And the guy at Marantz is trying to sort / slash push sky to sort with a firmware update...

Email address is in website - don't have to hand though.

Poor show - but apparently not uncommon with sky hd (seen denons and pioneers with the probs in the past - but they eventually get sorted!)

HDCP Problems with Marantz NR1602

I am awaiting replies from both the supplier of the AMP who was to take the matter up with Marantz and also Pioneer.
Not knowing the technical build of the handshaking if that's what it is I can only repeat what I have bee told.
It has been suggested that some TV's demand a stronger signal for the HDCP than some AMP's are outputting.
Reading back on old reports on HDCP i thought all the technical issues surrounding it would be standardised but the problems exist not only with my older TV but also with really up-to-date models and different new AMP manufacturrers equipment.
The whole issue seems a can of worms as how is anyone able to find the right combination.
it is a pity we do not have a consolidated list of the number involved.

my latest update from my retailer is that Marantz claim there is a problem with some SKY HD boxes and have sent some of their AMP's to SKY for them to sort out the HDCP problem.
I have no idea which SKY Box it is but I have an HD 1TB model 895C.
and as Marantz have sent thier boxes to prove a fault i suggest that anyone with this HDCP problem sends emails to SKY Technical asking for an update on this matter.
regards

Evening all.

Well, its been over 12 months since my last post on these forums...

I've had a NR1602 and UD5005 in my rack now for just over 24hrs. It replaced my uber-engineered Denon AVC-A1HD... (the guys at Sevenoaks couldn't believe I was doing this swap-out). But, do you know what folks? This Marantz isn't bad at all... I'm impressed so far.

Its still early days but there's nothing *missing* from the PQ or SQ that was there with the Denon.

Admittedly, I am missing the tweakability of the Denon. I'm also missing the fact that I can't find anywhere to bind my earthing wires (I've got an earthing plug bolted into an unswitched silver-plated socket). But, as my wife will attest, the whole point of me moving away from the Denon is that I'd be fiddling with it non-stop. At least with the limited options on the NR1602 you don't have the same scope for geekiness...

The NR1602/UD5005 combo is nice in black. Got the blu-ray sat on top of the NR1602 but will change that soon as I don't want either overheating (what is the opinion on stacking kit like this? Does 50W really pump out serious heat?)

I love the compact size. The NR1602 and the UD5005 combined are about 2/3 the size of the Denon and half the weight.

Will I miss the Denon? Yep. But the cash will come in handy (watch out for it on e-bay in the next day or so if you are interested).

Will the Marantz combo disappoint me? Well I'd say the opposite right now. I'm delighted with it and I can't see anything yet that makes me think that will change.

Btw, got a great deal on the NR1602/UD5005 combo in black from Sevenoaks for £800.

Oh, and when I first set it up, I had all kinds of weird problems with HDMI handshaking. Kept losing picture/sound for a few seconds and then it'd come back in. The only way I could get around this was to swap out my Chord Company Active HDMI cables and replace them with stock cables (y'know the ones, dull matt black that cost about 50p). Unbelievable. Those Chord's will be hitting ebay too.

Cheers.

Hi guys. Nice to c a thread starting on this amp. keep it going!!
just got a 1602 on monday:- spent hrs trying to sort the sky hd problem. sky did an update but no use. they blame the amp but they obviously talk @#%&*!! and it cant b the plasma.
my system is...
Panny v50 brand new
panny bluey
Sky hd 15 months old
mission M series. needs updating i no!

the work around was to go direct from sky to plasma with hdmi cable
then direct from sky to amp with optical lead, then change audio setting in amp
works but not the way its supposed to be!

Im setting up my harmony one now. if u dont have one of these babies u should run down to shops now. best bit of kit i have!
I cant wait to play!! keep this thred open. back soon!

what box?

What is the manufacturer/model of the Sky boxes that have trouble with the NR1602? I live in Spain and don't have Sky, but do have the local equivalent, Digital+. I want to make sure my set top box won't suffer the same issue, if I get the Marantz.
Cheers,
CHFels

I saw your messages and have the same pb : no HDMI out on usb/net radio/ipod and display+remote freeze. Did you get a solution except reset the unit?

No.

The last I had from Marantz was that they thought it was a problem with the TV and they had contacted Hitachi.

Thinking of getting a NR1602 to hook up to Virgin V+ (maybe TIVO soon), Sony DVD recorder(havent yet got Blu Ray player), XBox console & CD player. Matching with Tannoy HTS101 speaker package.

Are there similar problems connecting to a V+ box as i read about when connected to a Sky+ box?

Does anyone have one connected to a V+ box? If so, does it require a digital optical lead in addition to the HDMI lead? I assume V+ box will connect ok to the 1602 rather than having to connect V+ to TV then back to the 1602.

Marantz DHCP Proplems

I have been chasing this problem with SKY after I was informed that Marantz AMP's had been sent to SKY to try to sort out problems that had been experienced using the new AMP's with SKY HD+ Boxes.
The following response has been received today which implies that SKY have found a software problem in the HD boxes and have tested an update that resolves the issue.
lets hope this proves correct and that we all soon have the software update downloaded.
Quote from SKY
'I've spoken to technology and they have had a change of plan, basically they went out to another customer with the same amp as yourselfbefore Christmas with a test box and a HD box with new software within it, andcouldn’t recreate the issue. So they suggest we wait until we implement thisnew software to all boxes'.

Anyone out there have a 1602 connected to a Virgin V+ box with any comments to make?

As there aren't any posts mentioning V+, then I take it there mustn't be any problems, as surely not all users are on Sky.

Earlier in the threads MrTurtle mentions problems connecting analogue CD input to work. I'm planning to use this to connect my older CD player. Does anyone know if thos was resolved, or is it still a problem?

The alternative to this receiver is the Yamaha RXV671, but I think I'll take a punt on the Marantz due to its slimline size - or, is there reason for people to suggest the Yamaha, and have me try to rearrange things to squeeze it in?

Hi guys,

I just got this from Marantz, who have been working with Sky:

Consequently I cannot yet currently supply a release date,”

It should not be too long before they arrive at a solution I should imagine, and I believe that if you keep your eye on the firmware update of your skybox you may indeed be prompted to let you know there is a new firmware available.
I hope this assists.

Thanks
So, sounds promising I think!

Assingnment

I came across a bit of a weird thing. Most ins and outs are very assignable on most amps but I have a Wii using component. OK so I put it on game for obvious reasons and selected component 1 or 2 and neither will give me audio. It will however work if you assign component in on hdmi1 or hdmi2.

As I want my blue ray and media theater box on hdmi 1 and 2 I was a bit peeved. Solution - ebay...bought a Wii to hdmi converter and all sorted. PLUS the picture is fab. Even on component the upscale is so much better.

I am loving this new amp. Got it LAN hardwired to my router and works media great especially with airplay. Love the internet radio built in so dont have to use winamp on the PC.

Coupled up to my Velodyne surrounds and my trusty Velodyne Microvee it sound really nice.

I too have a V+ box but don't put the tv through it cos the wife can't work things and don't want her touching the amp!!!

set the volume

Hi all,

I'm new on the forum and i've just bought a marantz nr1602 with monitor audio speakers, r270hd for front and r90hd for the rear.

I have a little question about this amplifier.
When i'm listening the TV, a BD or a CD the volume is always set between -20 an -10 db for a standard sound level.
I have the unpleasant feeling that i use the amplifier to the limit.
Perhaps is there a problem on mine ?
And you, how is tuned the volume when you use your amplifier ??

Thanks in advance for your answers

Daffy

Hi Daffy, well I have never been a fan of the 'relative' display to show the audio level in db. I prefer a normal 0-whatever style. My normal listening levels are around 25 - 40 out of the 0-99.

Go to page 96 of the downloaded manual to change if you like this style of volume display.

Hi vinni,

I will change the audio level display to compare.
I noticed you own velodyne surounds speakers, could you tell me what is the sensitivity of a speaker (to compare with my system) ?

Hi All,

I just got rid of my Onkyo 705 as we needed a smaller AMP, I picked up the Marantz 1602 and set it up last night, however I'm having huge issues with the HDMI out.

I effectively get no video output to the TV, we have a Samsung LE40FBD, it's around 3 years old now but in it's say it was seen as a fairly good TV when it was released.

Samsung don't provide the firmware for the TV, it must be unsupported now..... Don't think I will be getting another Samsung given the inability to get previous firmware updates.

When I initially set up it all worked fine, I then performed a firmware update on the Marantz, ever since I have been able to get no signal at all.

I think the AMP is the issue here as I also connected my new HDMI monitor to it and once again got nothing, I do get Audio though.

I have connected all the sources to the TV and monitor directly and they work.

Any suggestions? I never heard any dodgy popping noises or anything strange form the AMP so it appears to be functioning. I have to admit I'm not hugely impressed so far.

The Onkyo was a dream to set up in comparison.
