chk wire setup

I have been trying to run the Audyssey 2EQ check on my speakers but every time I get this pop in my speakers and the system shuts off. when I turn it back on the the message "check sp wire" shows up. I have triple checked my wires. They are hooked up correctly with no crossover. I have trimmed any excess bare wires sticking out of the connectors. My wire is brand new Monster XP. I can't figure out what is causing this problem and what I can do about it. I don't have a problem when I use the stereo, except for running the Audyssey.

Try disconnecting each speaker in turn and then running the set-up. That way you might be able to at least isolate which speaker / channel is causing the problem. If you do find one specific speaker causing a fault, then swap it with the adjacent one on the same channel grouping (IE. back / front). That way you can isolate if it's a specific speaker causing an issue, or one particular channel. If the fault follows the speaker, then it's the speaker at fault. If it doesn't, then it's either the wiring for that channel, or the AV amp on that channel. If the fault doesn't follow the speaker, then to eliminate the wiring, just bypass that piece of wire (however good you think it should be) and just jerry rig a temporary connection. Basically it's a process of elimination. That way you should be able to work out if it's a specific speaker, the wiring, or the AV amp.

A hassle I know ... but that's how I would do it.

Good luck.

PS. Then I suspect it's a matter of phoning up your retailer and having a word.

Hi Wayne00

Sorry for the delay in replying, major issues with my broadband connection since upgrading (upgrading!?!?!) to ADSL2+ ... so fed up now, I've asked for my MAC and am changing ISP!

On the assumption that you've got your new player outputting a bitstream. Then only thing that I can think of, is that it's not one of these disks that doesn't default to the HD track? As I commented a while back, the two latest Batman movies did this to me. Had to actually select the audio track via the Blu-ray player pop up menu. One of the Mods mentioned that I think it was some earlier Warner bro. disks were like this. Other than that, can't really offer anything else.

I've had a good GOOGLE (almost sounds dirty!) and can't see any issues in this area. Though I suspect that's the first thing you will have tried.

Edit... though I'll throw in the usual.... firmware up-to-date on AV amp and BR player? Though I suspect you know enough to have already checked this

Haha! Your going to laugh! My sub wasn't turned on! So therefor it was playing the dolby D track for 5.0 instead of the 5.1 HD track

DTS must not have a 5.0 track, or at least if it does it must be 'HD'

All working now! Was puzzled for a couple of days by this lol

Hi

I'm afraid you can't get the coloured buttons to work with the Onkyo remote and a SKY+ box. I even Emailed Onkyo support and they confirmed this and recommended a fully programmable remote like the Logitech Harmony 700. Which is exactly what I bought and a great piece of kit it is.

Sorry

PS. Very frustrating that everything works BUT the coloured buttons.

I'm having some really bad A/V sync issues at the moment which is winding me up. Both trying to get my speakers to sync perfectly with my TV's freeview and my Blu ray player. Only had these probs since I've bought my new 42VT30 tv and Panny 110 Blu ray :/ I'm using the A/V "A/V sync" but can't manage to get it perfect lol! At the moment settled on +100ms.

Anyone else had to play around with their sync?

Bought the receiver a few months ago and I quite like it. I have one thing that is bugging me, which could be something that is not possible or I'm just a retard.

I got old, but good quality stereo speakers from a friend of the family and wanted to use these two for all my audio (music, movies, games), so don't have a dolby surround set.

I did need lots of HDMI ports (television, media player, Xbox, Apple TV) making a stereo receiver not an option, at least I assumed budget stereo receivers didn't have 4 to 5 HDMI ports.

With the Onkyo receiver I can't find any adjustments for the bass. Again I just assumed you would be able to adjust the bass without a subwoofer. At the moment I have good bass, but my whole room shakes when I put the volume up. Not that handy when it's past midnight and everyone is sleeping.

Any way to adjust the bass without a subwoofer?

When i'm watching freeview through the amp it cuts out for a split second ever half an hourish. Anyone else noticed something similar? When the sound cuts out TV Logic disappears from the receiver display momentarily.

No problems (yet) on my SKY+ box. Only time I've noticed anything, is when it swaps audio mode (EG. between adverts and say a program that supports Dolby) and there is a moment without sound when the AV amp switches mode (pretty normal that I suspect). I'm assuming here that it's just the sound that cuts out? How are you connecting (I forget what you've probably said earlier). If it's through HDMI, I would try optical connection for the sound and see if that cures it.

I wonder if anyone can help I bought a Onkyo AXV-690 AV Receiver Package which included an NR-509 and should have included the Audussey Mic but I I looked everywhere in the packaging and can't find it.

It says in the manual it is and in the package PDF online, but I got it from Best Buy UK before they closed their doors here. I wondered if any others had similar experiences and wether I could get one still from Onkyo or Best Buy?

Appreciate any help

PS any solution to the best remote with Sky HD? it's quite confusing reading ally he threads, some say Logitech Harmony 700 as best of both but then some say the coloured buttons don't work (whatever they are) at the mo I have the Onkyo remote working Sky but can't find a record button and because of the Onkyo not working properly with a WII connected via component I still need the Sky remote to change the TV channel.

I would drop Onkyo support an Email and see if they can source a mic for you. By all accounts their support is pretty good (GOOGLE is your friend here).
Onkyo | Support

The Onkyo remote can not be programmed to fully support the SKY+ boxes. It's the coloured buttons on the Onkyo remote that wont work with the SKY boxes. Well I never found a way to get them to work and I even Emailed Onkyo support and they confirmed that they don't work for UK SKY+ boxes (happy to be proved wrong though).

The Logitech harmony 700 remote works fully (all functions) with pretty much every modern device (at least in the last 5 years). And if any device / function is not correctly supported, then as long as you have the original remote for the device in question... then no problem. As you can program the Harmony remote directly from the original device. In my opinion the Harmony 700 is one of the BEST fully programmable remotes out there.

Hope this helps.

The light on my sub keeps turning red. If I waggle the cable where it connects to the amp, it makes a noise then the light turns blue again. Anyone else had this problem?

Obvious question I know. But have you tried another cable?

Is it a standard type of cable that I might have lying around? I do have a 'cable drawer'.

More than likely it's a phono-to-phono cable. As it's a mono signal.
EG. Subwoofer Cables - Audiovisual Online - Home Cinema and Hifi Specialists

What subwoofer are you using?

Now I'm not being funny when I ask this... But a lot of subs will turn themselves off if there isn't a signal coming through. Can I just check that there isn't actually anything coming out of your sub when you have something playing

I'm using the Onkyo SKSHT648 speaker package which includes a SKW-501E Bass Reflex Powered Subwoofer:
http://www.petertyson.co.uk/ebuttonz...sksht648.shtml

Maybe your right about it turning itself off. It turns off when watching Sky programmes. I'll stick a blu ray in and see if it makes itself turn back on.

Looks like you were right. The sub must have some kind of power saving mode. When I put something on with a 5.1 sound track, it powers itself up again. Quite clever really. Phew and thanks!

Hi m8

I got the same system as you , just updated the speaker wire to philex 42 strand from screwfix, £20 for 50 meters http://www.screwfix.com/p/philex-spe...hite-50m/80928, there's is an improvement , sounds more precise.

Here's the difference , beats me why these company's bundle such crappy wire when it's degrades the sound..

Is there really a noticeable improvement that is immediately apparent to anyone comparing the two? Genuinely interested

I noticed right away, more precise (detailed)and controlled top end, but she didn't notice at all lol, I didn't expect to here much difference , only reason I changed it was because the supplied cable wasn't long enough, iv had MTV dance on all night and music is sounding good :-), also played some cod and did sound better, still to try a blu-ray, for £20 I'm happy :-)

I'm pretty surprised that you would hear that much (if any) difference, unless the cable runs are very long, or there was a defect in one of the cables.

From a personal point of view. I recently replaced the cables to my rear speakers (which were under the floorboards) with a much thicker / better cable and can't say I've noticed any difference. And I'm the first to admit that I'm a fussy *****. And the old Sony cables were probably thinner than the ones in your picture (the ultimate in "bell wire")!

But as you yourself pointed out, it's very subjective (IE. one person will hear a difference while another wont).

But the important thing is, it was a +ve result for you

Update! It seems to be an issue with my house mains system!

I was watching TV and it started doing it. I noticed that downstairs my dad was using an electric cutter to slice the chicken for dinner. Every time he cut a slice my amp went off!!! :O
