Pioneer receivers use X-Curve - a facility by which treble can be cut by up to 3dB in 0.5dB steps - this will usually tame the brightest of speakers.

Mate. I'm running an lx93 with the mt30 set up and it's totally brilliant and can easily drive much better speakers as well. I've just sold the kef 3005se set up to my brother as I prefer the b@w's but you might like the kefs. Best to go and have a listen to both with an lx93. Either will blow your Bose kit clean away. Cheers

Have to say it took me a while to work out how to get 5.1 from sky but a phone call to pioneer put me in shock when they told me the amp won't pass though when in standby. Crazy for the price so I've had to run a separate hdmi cable for her indoors to watch sky without the amp

Unfortunately all AV receivers will only pass through HDMI information when in standby.

That's what I meant David. The pioneer won't do this. My old yamaha and onkyos both did this. But the pioneer won't. Mad on a 2k avr

Wondered why i couldn't get it to work, in the manual it says
Quote:
Select the 'Standby Through' setting you want.
It is possible to transfer signals from an HDMI-connected player to the TV when this receiver's power is on standby as long as Control is ON
but i have tried and cannot get it to work

Anyone having lip sync issues when watching films.? I have and can't get rid of it I've tried the delay in the 52 set it at what I think seems ok but it comes back and seems worse! Set it to auto sync and it's nearly correct but still is there. I've turned kuro link off and it made no difference. Any ideas guys? Thanks.

thanks for the reply, I don't think it's that as it's happened on a few discs when I've been playing about with the settings trying to sort it, but I will pause it tonight on purpose and see. It's very annoying!

I'm sure I read in the forums somewhere that a firmware update allowed HDMI passthrough during standby... let me see if I can find it.

Post back Toni and let us know if it works. I'm using a samsung blu Ray and assume you are using a pioneer?? I've only seen it on the pacific so far and have watched two other films since I got the receiver on Sunday and they were fine. Harry. Would be interesting to know if a firmware upgrade solved the passthrough issue. Apart from the odd niggle it's the best avr I've owned in 18yrs of buying home cinema kit. As an aside I managed to get mine from best buy in Derby for £1700 without too much pushing and it was the first one they had sold

I know I'm a newbie here but I really need help guys.
I've just bought a home cinema set (playstation 3, panasonic 42txv20, Monitor Audio RX6 AV12 5.1, Pioneer LX83 and, soon to come, beamax screen and jvc hd950 projector).

1 - It's the first time I have a home cinema worthy of that name so I need some help configuring it. Well.
In the speaker system settings of the lx83, i don't know what option to choose. There is this "normal" preset but it looks like it has 9.1 speakers! (2 back surround, 2 front height). then there's a zone 2, which looks like a 5.1 set with an extra stereo in another room. Then there's the bi-amp set, which also looks 5.1 but the front speakers are different, I don't bi-amp them, so I guess it's not this either...
Any help?

2 - In the subwoofer, i put the lfe in the out position, and in the amp, set the xover to 80 hz. is this good?

3 - What presets do you use for bluerays and music? for bluerays I usually just put the "direct stream" option (in the screen it shows dts-hd mst). But I don't know if I should do any more stuff (it has so many things, thx movies, optimum surround, auto surround, etc.). Am I doing it fine? For music I usually put it in direct stream too (while it is in stereo mode). Any recommendation here?

4 - any more settings i should "tweak" ? there is xwave, pqls, control, full phase, etc etc

That's all, I would very much appreciate any light anyone can shed on this. Oh and by the way, I still haven't mounted my surround speakers on the wall (will do it this weekend), so they are currently on the sides (and a bit to the back) of the couch, on two small tables, so they are below ear level. I don't feel the surround effect a lot. I guess it's because they're not properly placed yet. I've just tried iron man 2 and xmen: wolverine

Thanks!

Hi, I just got my 83 this week.

In the basic user manual there are diagrams for the various speaker configurations, just choose the standard, 5.1

I can then suggest mounting the surround speakers in their final position and then running the Pioneer calibration/equaliser setting mic. It will recognise the set up you have and optimise the settings.

Then you can fine tune anything you are unhappy with.

Cheers.

That option isn't so simple when you look at the setup menu.

Does the 83 allow for bi-amping the fronts

Whilst retaining the 2 rear centre preouts as the 2 rear centres ?

My ax10ai allows this but not sure the 83 ?

Thanks

Hi Guys, sorry if this is a dumb arse question but I have just spent the day setting up one of these but can't work out how to get volume on the TV to work. Sky HD are connected to the Amp via HDMI and the sound is awesome through the speakers but to keep the other half happy I need sound to come through the TV as well. Any setting that need to be changed so audio is sent via the HDMI cable connected from Amp to TV?

Hi buckster, I had to use the surround back channels to do this, and that only leaves you with front height , so I guess you can't mate. Hth

Thanks quasibongo -just the extra push required to steer me towards the B&W's - although it does make sense to find somewhere to hear both side by side. Living in HK the shops are not quite as geared to testing as those in the UK, although the prices are hopefully less to ease the pain.

Dav1dF thanks ! Nice to know that there is a setting to adjust the brightness too in future.

Great resource on the forum guys - it has already answered many questions, although sometimes adds some more new ones

What speaker cables should I go for with the MA GS60 fronts.
I was thinking between (all biwire)
1. Chord silverscreen
2. Chord rumour
3. Chord Odyssey

Thanks for your help.

Cheers.
