New Amstrad DRX895 and Denon 2310

Hi All,

I've just upgraded my Sky HD box from an old Thomson to a new Amstrad 895 and hitting the HDCP issue (at least I think so). I'm continuing to use the HDMI 1 port but not seeing any picture.

I do see the SkyHD boot image but no picture afterwards. I switch back to the Thomson and all is well. If I connect the Amstrad directly to the LCD TV and it works fine.

As an aside, I used the new Amstrad box with an old CRT TV via Scart and I don't get a picture there too. Should I be able to use scart to get a SD picture?

Cheers

Cheers just wondered, I am getting intermittent problem with my Denon 1912 and Sky HD.

Never had a problem with my 1909 but got a new TV now also.

Will see how it goes, don't want to but may end up connecting Sky HD straight to TV and not Amp.

Yeah its the Sky HD 1TB box.

Bit of a pain, the screen flashes a ferw times with the Sky HDCP error but eventually comes on!

I want everything fed through my Denon, don't really want to put it straight to TV.

How have you got around the problem mate?

Just for information i'm having the same issue intermittently with my Yamaha RX V671 (Great Amp.) most of the time it's fine then it will start losing sync, blank screen etc. Unplug HDMI cables a few times usually fixes it ok.

HDMI leads are decent quality & I have tried substitutes, Superfi swapped the Amp. but same thing with the new one.

Connect direct to the TV no problem!

I've had to cable mine straight to the TV.

Bit of a pain as I now have no On Screen Display from the Denon when watching Sky.

Yes Sky HD If you have to plug the Sky box direct to the TV you can at least still benefit from the Amp. due to 5.1 DD via optical or coaxial as Sky HD does not pass this signal via HDMI.

Update:

Despite several substitutions of latest version high speed HDMI cables I had this issue, however as I wish to add a HDMI splitter to another TV I bought a further HDMI cable & decided to try it, nothing special price wise (£9.95 for 3 Metre) & the problem has gone away! I can only conclude that despite reasoning to the contrary all HDMI cables are not the same in some way!

Yes, I agree all HDMI cables are supposed to be but it would appear not in my case.

Yes mine is intermittent, however I have tried swapping the cables back & without inserting the HDMI lead several times it does not work, however the new cable works first time every time?

I have just ordered a Denon 2312 and have now come across this thread, which gives me cause for concern. I have a Sky HD Pace box which I intend to connect to the av amp with HDMI and optical.

Anyone got this working? ..... if so what brand of hdmi cable are you using (though they should all work the same way)?

May cancel the order and look for another receiver. I don't want to go back to connecting hdmi to the TV.

OK - reading this thread there are people who

- have changed their hdmi cable to get it to work
- have got it to work on an old Thomson Sky HD box
- have experienced the same problem with a Yamaha av amp connected to their Sky box (with the same hdmi cables)
- are having the problem with the 1Tbyte Sky box.

Looks more and more like it is a problem with a specific Sky box type and certain hdmi cables.

There is a whole other avr 2312 owners thread on here with people raving about this amp, and who are using a Sky HD box successfully. My Sky box is a Pace model (not 1Tbyte), so I am going ahead and ordering the Denon amp. If I experience the problem I can always send it back, but I suspect that this is affecting a very few, unlucky, people.

I have the Denon 2312 and a Sky 1tb Box with this issue, usually it's not that bad maybe 1 or 2 flashes every 5 minutes but I'm just watching the F1 HD channel and the picture is going off completely every minutes and flashing constantly.

I've tried several combinations of ports and HDMI cables but nothing resolves it.

I have noticed the problem occasionally when using my Xtreamer, the sequence and speed that the Tv / Denon, Xtreamer is turned on seems to cause that but not matter what sequence I power sky on it doesn't help.

Spoke to Denon support this morning, they say they are waiting for Sky to release an update for the Sky Box.

Denon have shipped affected products to the Sky engineers who have acknowledged the problem is theirs and will release a update in the future to resolve the issue.

Hopefully Sky will support 5.1 over HDMI with the update to!

I asked Denon why would Sky fix a issue that only affects their receivers and the response was that it was a problem with the Sky box so only they can fix it...

I'm not that bothered, Sky is going when I finish my 12 month contract in a few months anyway, the main reason we kept it when I moved house was for Sky+, no other recorder is quite as good for recording I found but now with access to all the iPlayers etc via Xbox, iPad etc my need for Sky+ is pretty much gone.

Other then the Sky+ problem the Denon has been great.
