Kuro Link problem?

Hi All,

I have a Pioneer PDP-LX5090, VSX-919 and BDP-320 (due to go in nx week)

I have a weird problem with the kuro link, doing it's job but almost been to clever.

The set up has the following from TV to AMP,
2 x HDMI (one spare).
1 x Analogue audio return from TV.
1 x SR control cable (as Amp is in cupboard)
1 x RF Aerial feed with Virgin RF modulated siginal coming in on same cable

from Virgin SD box to AMP,
1x Composite and Analogue Audio. (into cupboard)

from Blu-ray to AMP,
1 x HDMI,
1 x SR control cable,

my requirement is to watch Virgin on the TV with an upscaled picture via the Amp, with the ablilty to switch the sound through both 5.1 surround and the TV speaker.
I started with just the RF feed feed into the TV, so when watching via the TV the TV speakers would be in use, only problem is the picture is very poor.

If I enable Kuro link on both devices the power On & Off checks all work,

I have the TV Audio return into TV/SAT,
Virgin into DVR IN,
Blu-ray into BD,

I select HDMI CTRL on TV remote which enables me to switch between PDP speaker and AV speakers, really easy and works great with on screen volume control.

A. The problem lies if I have PDP speakers on, and turn off the TV the Amp stays on, then switch on the TV and the picture appears (via the amp, so is a good pic) on input 1 with sound via PDP only, after 2 seconds the amp switches to TV/SAT, therefor killing the sound and picture as the TV's set to input 1.

B. If I have 5.1 speakers on, and turn off the TV the Amp stays on, then switch on the TV and the picture appears (via the amp, so is a good pic) on input 1 with sound via PDP only, after 2 seconds the amp goes off, therefor killing the sound.

C. If I put the Virgin into the TV/SAT input the Amp doesn't switch off when turning on, but when I use the HDMI CTRL on TV remote it switches to 5.1 AV speakers, but when going back to PDP it automatically switchs off the AV Amp hence killing the picture feed to the TV.

It seems the AMP is operating correctly only, seems to default to TV/SAT on switching on (or goes off), is there anyway I can change this?

If I disable Kuro Link the Amp's Audio parameters lets me set the Audio to AMP or though, but not BOTH,???? (seems daft because then I could just Mute one or the other.)

Hope I've explianed this correctly. I've tried all sorts of setting and power settings within the HDMI CTRL options.

Thanks Neil

Re: Kuro Link problem?

Can I make a couple of suggestions? Firstly don't bother routing your virgin cable box via the amp using composite. Composite is the lowest quality output. I'm not even sure the 919 has upscaling, I thought the 1019 was the first in the lineup to offer scaling. I would connect direct to the TV using a SCART cable and set to RGB. The pic will be vastly improved.

Sorry, I can't answer your Kuro link question, it all sounds very complicated and frustrating, so I my recommendation would be to buy a universal remote from the Logitech Harmony range. The One would be my pick. They will allow you to press one button which will turn on the relevant equipment and select the correct input. They remember the status of each kit, so if you want to view something else or listen to music, they will turn on/off what it needs. Far easier than any of this HDMI CEC nonsense by the looks of things.

Perhaps you might get a better suggestion if you got the mods to move this to the Pioneer owner's forum?
