CA Azur 640r & V+ Box issue

Hi Guys not sure which section to post this in so here it goes.

Got the black V+ box and have just gone HD with HDMI cables and flat screen tv that I aquired off my brother.

In the V+ setup settings screen amongst HDMI settings theres a setting that says HDMI Audio Override which basically means when watching HD content, at present BBC HD and some on demand content the set top box will out put dolby 5:1 whereas normally it just outputs prologic.

However when I switch this to on, and then switch to BBC HD, the amp has no problem recognising the format and switches to DD(3/2) mode however when I go back to normal tv channels the amp switches to PCM rather than PRO LOGIC which it would normally switch to after turning the set top box on.

PCM seems to be the other option that activates on the remote when pressing the DD button.

Forgot to mention that im connecting for sound via optical out cable on the V+ box.

Any help appreciated

Is this a fault or is it to

This is normal, being that all content apart from HD is output as LPCM from the V+ box. Pro Logic is simply applied as an DSP effects field over and onto the 2 channel audio being output by the V+ box. Given that the V+ box is outputting LPCM, the receiver will not auto detect Pro Logic even if the original audio is indeed encoded with it. If you want the two channel stereo output of the V+ to be output by the amp in surround then you will have to select the DSP surround field you want to use, in your case this would be Pro Logic. The only reason the receiver switches to DD when you are watching the HD channels and content is because those channels are encoded with that audio and have not been encoded as PCM. LPCM is basically the native digital audio output via the V+ box unless encoded otherwise.

If Pro logic isn't sticking as the default for non flagged stereo inputs then it is a quirk of the CA amp and not a fault or quirk associated with the V+ box and its audio output.

So its not the v+ box fault its the amps fault but its being normal?

It would appear so. I've a Sony STRDG820 with a V+ attached via HDMI. The receiver is set to Pro Logic, but auto switches to DD when DD is being transmitted. The receiver switches back to Linear PCM and Pro Logic when I change channels or when the DD audio is no longer present. The receiver also applies DD to 2 channel DD. I don't have the issue you have and the only difference is the receiver. The same situation is apparent via the optical audio output of the V+ box.

There's nothing that the V+ box is doing that would cause what you are experiencing.

From what I can gather it still sticks in DD with PCM because the DD button on the remote is also used to select PCM 2 channel mode. That button only has two functions, DD EX or DTS ES. If I switch back to prologic I can then press the DD EX/DTS ES button and it will switch onto PCM mode then.

Not sure whats up with it, its annoying though having to remember to switch back over all the time as others that live here I walk in and they are listening in 2 channel PCM!!

Rang Richer sounds as this seems to be the only Tech Support number on CA website they blamed virgin media box because they asked what it does when im watching a DVD in DD. I said it goes onto DD mode automatically then when Ive stopped watching it and go back to Virgin Media a normal TV Channel the amp switches back to the last mode I had it operating in which would be Prologic.

Any idea if I can take this further with anyone or is it jus the way the amps designed?

I've read something similar to this before in relation to the Cambridge Audio AV receivers so I'd say its a quirk of the amp. I've no problems with the V+ box and my receiver.

Would be good if they could provide a software update for it.

Dont know why you cant go through Cambridge Audio Direct for support.
