I have another post in the speakers forum ("...signed, DC") on this, but would like to see additional comments. I have an Adcom GFA-5500 that sent out enough DC current the other night to start a fire in the speaker cone of one of my old M&K Sat B-1's! It's a write-off.

The Adcom had just come out of the repair shop, and it's supposed to have an override circuit to shut it down in case this happens. Does anyone on this forum have any information that could shed some light on this?

You may have more luck in some of the US forums or indeed from Adcom themselves,but if it has just come from being repaired,it sounds very much as if it wasnt tested properly after those repairs(what was the problem initially?),and wasnt repaired properly.

No amp should pass large amounts of DC...a small DC offset is quite common,but not enough to damage a set of speakers.
