Stero Decoded into 7.1? possible?

Hey, This is my first post!!

Here is my problem, Currently i run my hifi from my computer. It gives me 5.1 channels which is run into my pionner amp giving me lots of volume! However i like having parties (nothin massive) but when i then plug in a stero input at my mates house i dont get the true power and only get stero.

The problem is that my amp doesnt create 5.1 from a stero input. Can i buy a AV decoder or preamplifier that will make 7.1 from a stero input and accept a 7.1 input?

Do they exsist for £300?

Thanks Martin

I would think that most, if not all, AV receivers will do what you want. They all tend to have decoding options such as DTS:Neo6, DPLII/DPLIIx or 7 channel stereo etc that should take a stereo input and output it to most/all your speakers. My favourite of all these conversions is Lexicon Logic7, but this only tends to be on high end equipment from Lexicon (well it is their own software) and some Marantz receivers.

Mark, don't Harman kardon use logic 7 on their receivers, or do they call it something else?

Yeh I think they do. I might have been a bit confused and mixed Marantz & HK as I knew at least one of them did L7
