Primare SP31.7 - which microphone to use for auto setup?

As it says on the tin.

I know nothing about microphones except there seem to be loads of different types.

The Primare manual does not specify what type to use. It appears to have a walkman/ipod size 3.5mm socket on the back of the processor.

I was going to have a quick go with one that came with the PS2 Singstar but its got a 6.35mm/ 1/4" jack on it and I cannot find an adapter.

Any ideas on what type of microphone is required? I plan on picking one up from a local Maplins tomorrow.

I have a sneaky feeling you need to go back to Primare.
And pay about £200 for the proper mic

Hopefully, someone will advise you, as there will be a much cheaper equivalent, IMO.

I've had a look about and other receivers such as Denon use an omni-directional maybe powered microphone - but not sure if I need a self powered one or one that drawers the power from the processor. Bit risky to guess.

I have a sound pressure meter so I'll probably use that instead and forget the microphone - I was only going to use it for an initial level setting starting point anyway.
