Which Multichannel Amp for Proceed AVP2?

I need some help in purchasing a 3 or 5 channel amp for the AVP2. It will be driving either KEF Reference Model 2 (4 ohms) or Focal JMLab 927be's with related centre and surround speakers (in different locations). The rooms are L shaped about 50m2. Needed for music 70% movies 30%. I am considering the following:
Linn 5125 - (available soon pre-owned at my local HiFi shop in Luxembourg)
Primare 30.3 - (for front 3 spkrs) or A30.5 available here in the states where I will be for the next 2 weeks
Lexicon NT-312 (from Audiogon in 230v)
JBL AVA7 (proposed by a supplier here in the US)
Krell SCA5 (from cancelled order here in the US)

The only unit I will be able to test with the rest of my kit is the Linn. My preference is for a lighter amp but I do not want to compromise on the excellent sound of the AVP2.
Also wondered if there were any problems with US sourced amplifiers.
Any advice / help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Peter

Re: Which Multichannel Amp for Proceed AVP2?

Dear Fellow Music Lovers

Well no response there unfortunately. I think I must have included too many variables in the initial posting for which I apologize.
What I have decided to do is not to buy anything here in the US but to test the ex-demo Linn 5125 amp with the Proceed processor, using the (inefficient) Kef Ref Model 2's, when I return to Luxembourg. If the Linn works well then it should be even better at driving the Focal JmLab 927be's which I have down in France.

I'll let you know the outcome.......

Cheers for now

Peter

Re: Which Multichannel Amp for Proceed AVP2?

Why not look at getting a s/h Proceed AMP5. I have this in conjunction with the AVP2 and it works very well indeed. In my experience Linn kit can sound a bit emotionless.
Others I would try would include the Cary, the Bel Canto and the Theta. From UK makes the Meridian may be a good bet. I've also heard good things about the Primare and the Parasound. There's a long thread on avsforum about the AVP2 and other preamps, and this also includes some discussion of power amp options, so may be worth a look www.avsforum.com

Have you looked at the Dussun D9?

Peter B
Thanks for the help. The AMP5 would be the ideal partner, I see there are some around on Audiogoons etc for +- $2,300....... The only concern I have with the amp is it is extremely heavy, over 100 lbs.
We have some good hifi dealers in Luxembourg, so will have a look at the others you mentioned as well when I get back from the US. Should be interesting.
Cheers

MHuk

The Dussun is not a make I am familiar with, looks interesting. I see that SoundofFreedom is using it as a power amp with a Proceed AVP.
They are selling for Euro 920 which is a v.good price if it sounds as good as the posts indicate.

Might be worth a test, do you know who the European agents are?

Re: Which Multichannel Amp for Proceed AVP2?

They (China Highend) ship it to Germany (when you buy one) and then on to the customer.

I don't think they sell from Europe, as such. I use a DS99 (the stereo amp that is the same as the Red Rose Music Passion) and it's been fine and never had to test the returns policy.

If you look on the Dussun website there may be details of an official distributor.
