Meridian G91A anyone??

Difficult to know where to put this...It's a DVD, Processor and Tuner!

Anyone with any experience of this unit? What do you think?

Cheers

I think you will get a better response on the meridian enthusiast web site

www.meridianunplugged.com.

I am sure there will be a few G91a users over there.

Re: Meridian G91A anyone??

You've forgotten that it's also an upsampling CD player and upsampling DVD player, plus 5.1 processor, plus DAB (if you want it).

You might also be interested in the G95 (released in April) that includes 5.1 100watts digital amplification for the same price as the G91.

I have an option on a G91A which I can purchase with an Arcam P7, do you think they would they make a pretty good pairing? These would be used with 2 pairs of PMC TB2+ and a T2BM centre that I've only just ordered and my existing Velodyne DD-15.

The G95 sounds like an excellent alternative but unfortunately thats not available to me.

Thanks for your reply.

Re: Meridian G91A anyone??

Forget the Arcam (!).

Partner the G91 with Meridian's own gutsy range of power-amps -

Meridian G56 - 2 x 100 watts - bridgeable - £1,495.
Meridian G57 - 2 x 200 watts - bridgeable - £1,995.
Meridian G55 - 5 x 100 watts - outer pairs bridgeable - £2,695.

Would you really rate the G55 higher than the FMJ P7?

Initially at least I shall probably go with the P7 and perhaps look for an ex-demo Meridian power amp in the future. For the moment I'm getting a half decent deal on the P7 so shall stick with it (purely for financial reasons)

Re: Meridian G91A anyone??

m33,

When I was having issues with my Naim DVD5 I borrowed on of these, and the top of the range DENON.

For DVD I though it was excellent. For CD OK.

I use the DVD5 with a Benchmark DAC1 - which gives fantastic results. The G91 through the same DAC was not as good - to my ears.

I stuck with the DVD5 because the sound is just far more musical to me, admittedly via an AV2 - but also through my EAR pre.

This means that I enjoy music DVDs & DVDA through the DVD5 far more. However, in terms of sound steering for feature films both the Meridian & the Denon are better than the DVD5.

Yer pays your money & make your choices!

M

Re: Meridian G91A anyone??

I'm currently using an Arcam DV139 and AVR350 and aside from some initial issues with regard HDMI which still haven't been solved, I am very much enjoying the very musical nature of this combination. It's a lovely sound.

Still currently using this with a pair of Aerial Acoustic model 6's until my PMC's come through so I can't give you a proper idea of what movies are like in 5.1 - only 2.1 !!!

So from this Arcam two-some I have decided (mainly due to it's pain in the arse handling of video inputs) to try the Meridian. With the Meridian it up-converts all video inputs and sends them out via 1 HDMI output. Surely thats what the AVR350 should be capable of but isn't????!!!!! ANNOYING!

For now I shall be pairing it with the FMJ P7 (plenty of grunt) and two pairs or PMC TB2+'s and a TB2M centre and my current DD-15

Naim was also a contender...AV2/DVD5 and one of their power amps. I must admit to being confused by the power amp range - what combination in their current range I should have been looking at I have no clue

Re: Meridian G91A anyone??

If the G55 is as good as the 558.2 power amp which puts out 200 watts x 5 then it will demolish a P7. I tested loads of multi channel power amps before plumping for the meridian. Suggest looking out for a used 558.2
Its not that the P7 is bad its just that the Meridian was nearly £1000 more than the Arcam and you could tell that the sound was much more transparent.

Re: Meridian G91A anyone??

The G55 is 5x100watts though. I will keep my eyes open for a G55 or WHY. P7's are usually in demand so hopefully pretty easy to sell if I need to move it on. Ideally I would prefer to keep the 'look' of the G91 if buying a Meridian power amp.

Thanks for your input

Wend Meridian G91A-SV 2.385 L (3.585 €). It is three months old. I want to buy Meridian G98-DH-SV and G68ADV-SV.
Payment in advance or against reimbursement. Gratuitous shipment by Ochoa company. The expenses of reimbursement pay the buyer to them.
