Parasound 2205a - problem with 12v trigger

Hi all

I'm hoping someone can help. Last night I finally wired up my 12v trigger cable to my Parasound 2205a and Yamaha RX-V2700 which I'm using as a processor.

Initially it seemed to work fine, but every so often the power amp just switches itself off

I've checked the wiring and it's fine, good contacts made.....so I'm wondering what the problem could be. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers
Matt

Re: Parasound 2205a - problem with 12v trigger

Is the Yam providing the 12v? If so, what is its rated current delivery? I tried looking at the instruction manual for it on Yamaha's site - it didnt talk about a specific 12v trigger output. Perhaps you are using the control output sockets? Maybe they don't have enough current to supply the parasound's trigger input.

Re: Parasound 2205a - problem with 12v trigger

Hi Chris

Yes the Yam is providing the 12v and I've connected it via the Control Out socket - it says above the socket, 12v 15mA Max.

Re: Parasound 2205a - problem with 12v trigger

I found this in the Parasound manual:
"Since it is optically coupled, the DC
trigger only requires 15 mA of current to activate the circuitry and turn on the amplifier."

So the power amp requires 15mA of current and that is the maximum that the Yam can provide. I think 12v trigger outputs on processors are usually beefier than 15mA - my Meridian, for example, is 100mA.

My guess is that your Yam is struggling to provide the current required to keep the 12v input high on the parasound - hence your intermittent cut outs.

Re: Parasound 2205a - problem with 12v trigger

I have an RX-V2700 which I am using with Parasound Halo amps. I have no such problems. Also 15mA is a standard trigger ouput. If there was a problem with the signal strength from the Yamaha trigger, then the Parasound amp would not be switching on.

Are you sure you don't have the switch on the Parasound set to signal select rather than trigger? Shutting off like you describe usually occurs when using signal select, and there is a lengthy period between explosions

Did you ever resolve this Matt?

Hi chris

Yes I did! I just rotated the jack in the yamaha a bit and hey presto, it's worked ever since

Cheers
