Need to increase signal level before amp input?

Wondering if i can be pointed in the right direction here please.

I have a Kenwood AV amp with a mono phono out to go to a sub setup.

I have this going to the rack mount amp i use to power my sub.

But the signal level is not strong enough. There are situations when even with the Kenwood sub gain set to max, and the rack mount set to its most sensitive, there is still not enough there.

So is there an easy (and hopefully cheapish) solution to raise the voltage of the signal between the amps, like a line driver type setup i suppose.

Thanks, Jamie.

Yes.

You can, as I have in the past, use an 'active' crossover network that is used in pro car audio installs that often have very extensive sub bass controls and large gain controls, along with phase shift & crossover frequencies too. Power requirement is 12vdc so I used a regulated PS with enough mA to power the unit.

It was a high quality unit with good specifications but you should be able to find something very reasonable via fleabay in the car audio section to fit your bill.

Something's wrong. The Kenwood should be able to put out around 2V at maximum gain. You can test this with a multimeter. The amp should be able to achieve full power at between 1 and 2V. I'm not to sure what you meant by the mono phono out on the Kenwood - is this for the LFE channel? If so, does the Kenwood have a gain setting in its menu?

Some pro (ie studio) amps have lower input sensitivity as they are intended to be driven by balanced connections at double the voltage, ie 4 volts. Do you have specs on the amp?
