Arcam Alpha 10 amp - overheat problem

I have an Arcam Alpha 10 amp fed by an Arcam CD92 Cd player and bi-wired into floorstanding 8ohm impedance speaker (built from a design in HI FI news). The amp has a problem now where I get 'fault condition - overheat' displayed on screen and the amp switches out the speakers to protect itself, so no sound - very frustrating. The instruction manual says this normally happen at high volumes when playing into 4ohm speakers etc, but it happens as soon a I switch the amp on, regardless of volume or source.

I've owned this combo for a few years, and the amp has gradually developed this condition over the last two months, it occued sporadically at first, then gradually kicked in sooner and sooner after switch on. I used to leave the amp switched on standby all the time, because I thought it was healthier for the electronics. Has this caused the problem?

Any advice greatly appreciated - has anyone experienced the same problem with Arcam amps?

Re: Arcam Alpha 10 amp - overheat problem

Im running the 4ohm celestion a3s with my alpha 10 and 10p and while the 10 does seem to run extremely hot - ive never had the problem your describing.

maybe its because i'm i'm biamping (and therefore sharing the load) - i dont know.

Is your alpha 10 suitably ventilated? any other components stacked on top?

It could be that your 10 just needs servicing.
