Panasonic Sky to marantz sr4200

I've seen this same question asked but without a decent answer.

My skybox is connected via stereo phonos to my marantz proc/amp. I've noticed that left set to auto the marantz just plumbs for sterop output. I have to force it to prologic II to get anything near surround.

Why is there no dolby from the sky box even when the movie is in DS? I thought the whole point of dolby was to encode DS into stereo channels so a proccessor can seperate the audio to 5.1 surround..... all without interfering with players that just do stereo.

Am I missing something? or do I really have to get a sky box with optical out?
