Info reqd. Chord SPA 1016?

Hi all,

I've just popped a fuse on my Primare 30.5, driving a pair of Epos ES30s, two amp channels to each speaker.

Epos have told me that the ES30s need a very good amp to control the bass driver, and the "cracking" I've heard intermittently when wound up is the voice coil whacking the magnet because the amp can't control it properly.

So I'm now thinking of changing the 30.5 to something different.

I've found a pair of Chord 1016s but can only find very basic info on them :
330W RMS into 8 ohms, 350W RMS into 4 ohms, which doesn't sound like they've got a very good power supply, or high current handling.

Does anyone have experience of these amps, or a link to more information on them?

Or suggestions on other suitable amps? I'm hunting for a Bryston 4B SST but they're as rare as rocking horse poo second hand (either that or ludicrous prices).

Thanks, I've seen those two. Chords web site has nothing on the older models.

I'm looking for a review or two really.

Seeing the complete lack of detailed info/reviews I can only assume they sold as well as pre-burst bubble wrap, and I wonder why?

Chord Amps are high end, if you can afford them, get one.

Thanks but I never just buy something because of its name.

If I can't find out anything about it and some reviews, I won't buy them blind.

Just found out they also have two Chord SPA 612 monoblocks and two Chord 1424 monoblocks. And a DynaudioAcoustic DCA 1250 amp which appears to be a 1.25KW monoblock. (*Another* one I can't find anything about!)

Actually its the whole of the Prodigys Dynaudio M3A system they have for sale - wish I had £12.5k spare

So I'm currently haggling over the price of a pair of Chord 1424 550W (1900W peak!!!) monoblocks.

Hope the Epos ES30s will be happy with these puppies (at last!)
