Views lack of THX Ultra II on Arcam AVP700

Hi all,

Just in the throws of looking at upgrading my System (Lexicon MC1, 2x Cyrus power amps bi amped fronts and Rotel 985 MKII THX driving sides, rears and centre).

I am thinking of the new Arcam AVP700 and two Arcam P1000's so I can drive all speakers Bi-Amped. I would appreciate input on this solution and if the lack of THX Ultra II will affect the listening aspect at all?

Also any alternatives that will also support HDMI switching would be appreciated

Thanks in advance
Darren

PS Speakers, B&W CDM 7 SE front, B&W 602 S3 Centre and B&W DS6 S3 sides and rears with a Rel Q200E sub

Do the B&W CDM's and 602 warrant THX Ultra II?

The lack of u2 us largely irrelevant I think, Arcammake very decent products but it will be a bit different from a MC1

I agree, I think an improvement in loudspeakers would have a much more discernable benefit than a THX badge on the amp.

If you do want THX Ultra 2 then look no further than an AV8 and 2 P7s.

I agree don't worry at all about THX.

For example you have a Rotel amp that is THX but the newer Rotel Amps aren't THX. Most companies now seem to think that it's a waste of money to pay for the privilage of putting a THX badge on their goods.

Mind you... for £200 quid you buy a thx soundcard and speakers for a pc...

I know what i'd rather listen to between that and an Arcam Pre/Pro

Firtsly, I think that the specs for computer THX speakers are different to a processor. Saying that the Logitech 680 uses the same processor found in the THX badged h/k 8500...

Secondly I now find THX to be largely useless, and stick with normal decoding modes. THX has become a feature that is required to sell AV amps rather than a genuine facility. Some may argue, but I do seem to remember a fair few folk looking at the Yamaha AZ1 and saying "oh, but it doesn't have THX - I'll get the Denon instead"

With regard to processors and HDMI switching, I believe that the new NAD Master range has HDMI and looks a million quid, looking at the pictures.
