Nakamichi PA-7
but it appears to have only one pair of channels . Is there switchable device in the market to which I connect this beast as well as two pairs of speakers thus giving me an A/B option?

The old Nakamichi PA7 was a superb amp,and very similar to many of the Threshold amps of the same era(having been designed by the same man...Nelson Pass,now of Pass Labs).

It ran substantially in Class A,although not fully,and was very well rated when it appeared....in short,a good amp and well made.

In answer to your question,you should find that QED make something suitable,in terms of 2 or 3 way switching boxes.

BTW...if this is the amp listed on a certain auction site,do take into account the apparent rear case damage,and the fact that servicing may be a problem.

yes it is that site .The price I think has gone to high bearing in mind the damage and lack of servicing. But Thanks anyway. Always wanted a beast of an amp.

Thought it might be...I tend to look around for vintage items that take my fancy as well,but that one does look as if it's been dropped from a height.

If you're interested,occasionally you may find Threshold Stasis amps around,which were the originals from which Nakamichi licensed theirs,and the later models are beautiful,but not exactly bomb-proof as regards biassing setup and output transistors.

Cheap,good and very powerful amps are hard to find,and more so in good condition....best of luck!

I have leak stereo 20 and Audio Innovations 800 c pre and I just thought I might like to change the Leak.
Not sure what you mean by biasing setup mind. Is there no way of getting servicing foir Nakamichi goods these day?

Its not so much that Nakamichi cassette decks can't be serviced,just that amps like Thresholds upon which the Naks were based arent easy to service except in the US,where the company h recently been restarted.

Some of the later Threshold amps had an unusual bias scheme for the output transistors,hence my comments.

What I'd really like to do is learn/ become aware of those quality amps /receivers that were made in the sixties , seventies and ,possibly, eighties with a view to purchasing them hanging on to them and then flogging them. The likes of Kenwood ,Pioneer, Sony, Rotel and Denon must have made some tasty gear back then. Not to say the British makes.

I was thinking in terms of a Sansui Reciever G8700DB or Mission 771/772 both available here http://www.audiogold.co.uk as well as others although I suspectb their prices are at premium
