Never heard it. But rules is rules and Ian J was right about the transition into a spamfest.

I'm quite excited to give Frank Harvey a call on Monday. If the Dealers that get their stock from a 3rd party Distributor are supposed to be getting their stock on Wednesday, then the Official Dealers that get their stock direct from Onkyo should have them on Monday or Tuesday.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts when you receive your new toy, you seemed against the 5509 in your earlier posts?

Not so much against, more disappointed really. I expected Onkyo to do far more with the 5509 compared to the 5508, based on number of things that I had heard earlier in the year. The actual differences have turned out to be fairly minimal and I can't see that many people needing a 5509 over a 5508. For me, there is mainly one small feature that may possibly save me money elsewhere, but I won't know this for sure until I've got it and tried it out.

Sadly, with my MX350's gone, my system no longer has the bottom end that I have grown accustomed to over the past 6 years - but I'm hoping to take the first step towards addressing that situation in December. So I'll be happy to post my thoughts about the 5509, but things will probably not quite be right for me until I have my Subwoofer situation sorted.

Have to say if i had the 5508 i might not be upgrading, But i reckon they are just getting all the basics right like over heating video boards and better fabrication/design on the motherboards etc...

I will be starting a sub build soon and I have 2 SVS PC Ultras for sale if your interested

I wouldn't expect much difference between the 5508 and 5509 boards, except for the updated video chips of the 5509. Even those aren't really much of an upgrade, as the HQV Vida is just a slight update on the Reon-VX and the 4k scaling of the Marvell Qdeo is a bit pointless for at least another few years.

The new design front panel is a bit misleading (in a way) because very little else has changed internally. Other than the new features that the updated video processing has allowed, I see no reason why everything else cannot be implemented on the 5508 with a firmware update. I'm sure some or all of it would be possible, but it seems like Onkyo are holding back those features in order to justify the 09 model - at least for now anyway.

My Subwoofer plans are already decided, but thanks anyway.

I dont understand the point of the sc5509. I have the sc5508 and there are no new features that are worth me upgrading.

Which is why I was recommending people to go for the 3008/5008/5508 while they were still available (or even 2nd hand) rather than paying the extra for the new models. If I hadn't recently started a new job, I don't think I'd be going for the 5509 either.

There are a few small updates that could be a benefit to some people. Also, while I'm expecting the performance of the 5509 to be pretty much the same as the 5508, there is always a chance that there have been improvements made that the spec will not show.

As a whole there are not many brands that have an affordable AV Pre amp especially with the amount of spec that the 5509 brings to the table. Ok when I say affordable i am thinking about Lexicon, Bryston,Arcam & Denon to name but a few all are many ££££ more.

I know it want be the last word in 2 channel but for the money I bet it will pull some big punches

It's come at a good time for me but If I had the 5508 I more then likely would not be buying the 5509 and would skip a generation, Just like the i-phone 4s I have the 4 and would miss the 4s for the 5

I agree with the first bit, but actually really liked the 2-channel performance of the 3008 and 5508 as well.

Having heard what was possibly on the cards for the 5509, most of it appears to have been saved for the 5510 (or whatever it will be named). But even so, it's not like we are talking major features that everyone would be interested in. So I think a lot of people will probably be safe to skip a few generations.

I'm still rather confused why Onkyo decided to add 4k scaling, instead of implementing 11.1/11.2 output - especially when they are making such a big thing about DTS Neo:X. Also, to have the same video processing as the 1009, it just seems like they've cut corners because of being behind schedule.

Sorry, when I say it seems like they have cut corners, what I really meant was that possible improvements don't seem to have been implemented. It just doesn't make sense to me to have the same video processing technology in the 5009 and 5509 as the 1009.

I have no interest in 11 speakers either. I could possibly add some height speakers, but wides are definitely a no go for me. I'm more than happy with 7.2 using surround backs. But while 11.2 is not something I want or need, I'm still surprised Onkyo didn't implement it.

well mines on the rack, arrived the other day but only got round to replacing the 5508 with the 5509 yesterday.

first impressions.......... its just looks the dogs doodahs

quickly set it up so I could record something on freesat and thats as far as I got

I changed the 5500 amp for a sunfire 7401 so it all should be quite a step up from what I had last week to as it is now.

Our Demo unit's have just arrived this afternoon. Cannot wait to get them up and running in our demo room. Should be early next week though. I'm in the same situation as David. KEF and JVC this week! Loverly new toys at both shows!

LOL DJBlade it came in on my birthday which was rather nice BUT only thing I have got working is Ethernet so I can see my music on the NAS drive, I have not done any calibration yet that will happen tonight so will report back.

What was a shock though was how loud my sub's are with punch I might add without calibration, I changed the RCA plugs to Balanced XLR's on my sub leads.

This is the 3rd day I've had this toy and tonight will be the first night I,ll be able to give it a blast
