so, how do you define "so close" in a release date?

Is there any news regarding a "close" release date!? I am rather bored with Audiolabs infernal manufacturing processes ;-)

Seems to be as close as a mirage - in other words it is always on the horizon, but never gets any closer.

I doubt that anybody will buy 8200ap with the specs published so far.
I like my 8000ap that it is slim and has decent audio performance for its money, but that's it.. as a surround pre/pro it is

...if they put a few things like EQ and HD Decoding into it, it would attract a LOT more people ....but I agree, I like the slim lines and simplicity of the processor - the 7.1 BYPASS is the only thing I really can look to at justifying an upgrade

Maybe they should go the other way and stick to the pure audio by-pass idea but add more inputs that can be by-passed and keep it pure and simple.

lol, well I have been looking out for a PARASOUND P7, which is pretty much what you describe above (pure Analogue Bypass with Analogue Volume Controller beats Digital imo)

imo, you could not have two different sounds, arcam big warm wall of sound needing more detail where as the anthem is very detailed but to clean even maybe a little brash. if you are wanting a dynamic clean detailed sound and you are connecting up using hdmi cable from source, the anthem is in a league on its own nothing else even close due to arc. on the other hand for a much softer sound the arcam wins. i think its somewhere between and achievable with analouge connection and no room correction pure system sound.

Well I am just back from IAG in Huntingdon and what a brilliant service they provide. My 8000AP did in fact have a fault in its HDMI board which they detected within 10 minutes of testing. The have now replaced the HDMI board under warranty and updated all software to the latest revision. All done in an hour and a half while I wondered round the local Tesco. I can't praise them enough. Now to get it back in to my rack and see how it compares to its stand-in, an Emotiva UMC-1.

I also have a provisional booking to drop it off for a software update and a quick test. If all ok I get to take it home, if not they will keep it for 3 days to test properly and fix.

I don't think it is a dry joint as the problem only really occurs when the Humax is the source. If we use the WII for iPlayer then it will work fine all day. Both the WII and the Humax go via my DVDO VP50 in to HDMI2.

be interested to see your conclusion there. i almost went for a umc-1 as a stop gap as i couldn't get my hands on a marantz av7005, but ended up getting one in the end. the 800ap was one i was looking out for, so just out of interest would be good to see how they compare

That's great service. Such a shame the team in charge of the web site and general communications can't match up to the same standards!

Still absoutely nothing about the 8200AP on the site, and why remove all the info about old products and the firmware download page. Did version 4.02 of the 8000AP firmware ever get posted on the old web site?

I agree, that is VERY poor show removing the Firmware and online Manuals etc. Are they ashamed of their old product line I wonder!? ;-)

What is the current status of the 8200AP?

Spoke to someone from IAG at the Bristol show in 2010 but is not listed on their site.

Might have a look for a used 8000AP instead.

Unfortunately it was a couple of hours work to get the 8000AP back in to my rack, don't ask, so I could not try till today. Well I have got to admit as soon as the 8000AP was back in my rack I could hear the difference. Which was strange as I really liked the sound of the UMC-1. There is also the problem that in order to remove the UMC-1 I needed not only the 8000AP but also a DVDO VP50, but I was not comparing video quality. That is tonight's task but then again my Oppo 95eu is feed directly via the 8000AP and I will be firing up my JVC 350 and if allowed I will be watching The Watchmen.

I am still trying to find the words as to why I thought it was better and the only thing I can think of clarity.

As a fellow AUDIOLAB 8000AP owner (aimed at people who are not all that concerned with RoomEQ - I believe a Subwoofer may need EQ, easily done with with a BK Electronics box), I would like to share with you the biggest sonic upgrade I have ever come across - the NuForce NXE upgrade on the OPPO BDP-93!!!

I am running this via my 5.1 BYPASS, which detracts very little from the Source, and it is simply OUTSTANDING, in a nutshell.

There is no Receiver/Processor that could match the sonics of this upgrade (unless NuForce of course make an NXE upgrade for the 8000AP/8200AP) as it is leagues apart...complete tonal and dimensional altercation against the usual suspects out on the market in this era....the true warmth and detail of this analogue sound makes my system sound like it is living and breathing, just like nature intended...

What was the cost of this ? and what made you go for this instead of just going for a OPPO 95

I could not splash out £900 at the time for the -95 ...also I do like the slimmer profile and do not use Balanced ICs (no need unless beyond 10m IC length).

There are upgrades for the -95 also (not from NuForce though), but stock -95 vs. NuForce NXE Extreme I am very happy to organise a shootout somewhere in London...have been around long enough to recognise stellar audio performance, and this is it...confident the NXE will win hands down - it is as good, if not better than Kevin Green's modified ARCAM Alpha-5 CD Player with TDA DAC ...I say this with inspired confidence ;-)

The NXE is $900 from USA ...a final figure could vary, try your luck with Customs like I did...or there is someone in Fife Scotland importing the NXE I believe, but not very reliable and hard to get hold of.

A local OPPO Dealer (hint-hint) should step up to the mark with this, it is an outstanding product for Music and Cinema...although it does compete with -95 sales, so may be discredited ;-)

2 channel HDMI & Neo:6

I've finally been forced to use HDMI for my Netgear media streamer. I'm outputting 2 channel material over HDMI to the 8000AP and I've found that I cannot process it with DTS Neo:6, only Prologic II.

Has anybody else found this and is there a reason?

Why is 2 channel over HDMI any different to 2 channel over SPDIF?

The display reads PCM HD, if that helps.

TIA

Hmmm I've not had that problem, however DTS decoding styles have not worked with DD in for me in the past with my McLaren AV ...your AP might be seeing the source as DD, not really PCM?

Thanks ti33er. It seems I should have !!

Page 2 states that PCM 2 channel over HDMI is either Stereo or PLII(x) Movie/Music. That seems like a dumb restriction to me. Anyway nothing to be done about it I guess.

It's definitely not DD because the Dolby light is not lit. When I do get a Dolby stream of some sort it is obvious on the display.

I should be going to the Manchester Show all things being well, where Audiolab apparently have a stand, I will pull on their coat tails and see what info we can get from them.
