Music amplifier or surround?

Hello, soon i will have my own gym, i am trying to find what to buy so i can have the best results in the music section.
I have visited 2 retail stores and the only they did was confusing me.
I need quality sound and a lot of input option cause i will use my amp not just for music. I will have to connect my satellite box, my internet radio and a CD player maybe. One store recommends an music amp and the other the surround.
5 speakers will do the job, if i go for surround will i need a sub woofer? what do you think is the best option?

Thanks!

Do you mean you've converted a room for your own personal use or a commercial type gym?

If it's commercial, size makes a big difference, so you would need to tell us that.

Also a budget for the amp would be useful. Likewise the speakers.

If you go surround, you would probably be best off with an AV receiver, some examples here;

AV RECEIVERS from Richer Sounds

You can do surround without a sub, but the speakers are going to have to be pretty special (expensive) for best results. I'd look to factor in a sub personally.

But it depends.

Re: Music amplifier or surround?

Its a commercial gym, small one, around 90 sq.m, am willing to pay around 1500 usd for a complete set, amp and speakers. and if i need a sub i can go for it later i think.

So i suppose you recommend a surround amp rather than a music amp?

Re: Music amplifier or surround?

i would recommend JBL control 1 speakers for placing arround the gym.these can be had on ebay for very little money
-and a pro multi channel amplifier with at least 40w rms per channel into 8 ohms.-it doesnt matter too much which one.

this setup will provide lots of punch and rhythem for the money-exactly what you want for a gym!!

i would use a laptop for the music source (possibly with a squeezebo attached(instead of a cd player) as you can set playlists, have access to multiple internet radio stations that do gym music all day long, and can mostly leave it to run itself-perfect.

if you had the laptop already this would set you back around £400 all in!!! and would be better than either option you listed imo.

i ended up with HK 3490 connected it to my Asus mobo via optical and 3 pairs of Amazon.com: JBL Control 1x Personal Monitor Speaker System (Pair): Electronics
I love the amp and the speakers.
