Will a Pre Amp improve the sound ?

Hi,
I will be getting a Sonus a connecting it directly to a Arcam Power Amp via Phono cables. ( the Sonus offers volume control directly )

Would there be any advantage in getting a Pre Amp and connecting the Sonus to that first ?

I personally can not see the point of a Pre Amp in this set up .... am I missing something ?

Thanks

Perm

I would have thought it depends on quality of preamp you may use. The sonos will have a DAC inside, its quality is in line with its price. If the preamp you use has a higher quality DAC, then you should see an improvement.

I have one my zone players using a high quality DAC (in my Quad CDP) and it sounds a lot better.
Its only worth the expence if you are listening to uncompressed files and have decent speakers imho.
