mission 753 (non freedom) + 2x audiolab 8000p good match ?

Hi.

I am planning to buy new amps to drive my mission 753 (non freedom) speakers. I heard they need good power to bring the best sound. At the moment it's connected to a 7.1 Pioneer vsx-ax3 receiver 70watts (think it's closer to 50w in real life) I'm interested in buying two audiolab 8000p amps. I want to Bi-Amp the two 8000p's and connect them to my mission speakers. (Offcourse with the bridge removed on the back).

Since the speakers are 100w and the audiolab amps are both 100w will it work? Or will it blow the speakers? If I bi-amp the two 100w amps will the speakers receive 200w of power ?? I am new to bi-amping, so any info is welcome. Thanks.

Aren't the Mission 753's rated at 150w? I use them, but as surround speakers. Instruction booklet is around here somewhere.

They don't need huge amps to drive them either, as you can see from my amp.

Can't help with your bi-amp question as I have never needed more power.

I am not near the speakers. But as far as I can read on google they're 150watts indeed.
But if I use two identical audiolab 8000p. they are matched so no distortion and one amp will do the high/mid the other amp will do the low frequencies so I think it should be safe. And it wil provide some good power.

I recently connected my old 120w harman kardon stereo receiver to the 753's and it's a world difference compared to the pioneer.

So a little bit of more power is giving me better results.

Hope you get it sorted as they are a great sounding speaker for both music and film.

You can't really have enough power when it comes to driving speakers. You'd probably need to listen at ear drum bursting levels to damage your speakers.

It's a common misconception that an amp that is rated higher than the speakers is more dangerous than one that is rated less than the speakers. More powerful amps will just do the job more effortlessly. Amps that don't have the power to do the job properly will clip which can cause problems.

HTH.

Re: mission 753 (non freedom) + 2x audiolab 8000p good match ?

Are they the original Audiolabs or the newer versions?

I had a pair of the old version running a pair of B&W P6's years ago, as part of an all Audiolab setup, and they had more than enough grunt to easily handle the P6's.

Audiolab used to (not sure if still the case) be very conservative with their power figures, so i wouldn't have any worries on the power front. There's also a healthy amount of current on tap, which makes them very capable.

Whether or not they are a good sonic match i don't know. I remember the old 753 Missions used to be bright when used with Audiolab and found B&W a better match. But that was years ago, so they could be very different now

Yes you're right. And as far as biamping it doesn't double the output. It's when the amps are bridged. Was a little confused.
So biamping only seperate high and low on each amp.
