View Full Version : Headphones with AV32R.........How?
OK,
I'm missing something here. I'm trying to use a pair of headphones with my AV32R connected to the tape outputs as recomended, using a 2 phono-3.5m adaptor, but no sound
Do I need a headphone amp? I bought an inline volume control to use, as I thought the sound would be to loud! Do I have to enable something for the tape output to work?
Thanks Rob.

With mine I use the Musical Fidleity x-cans which works fine, there's a few others around that you can use of course, what sort of headphones are you using?
Hi,
I'm using a pair of Sennheiser HD600s, and a Sennheiser in-line volume control which I may or may not need
I've tried the tape-outs into a recording deck, and still no sound, so its not the headphones. Strange one this.

There are some issues re digital signal, analogue outputs etc on earlierAV32 lower specs. A tape output should be ale to drive the phones no problem directly

Early AV32Rs could not output digital sources to the tape outputs, IIRC the change to enable this was made when the 192/24 DACs were introduced.
Ah, that would explain it then. Mine is a July 01 model, so I guess old now! I don't have the upgraded DACs, didn't realise you needed them for headphone output. Better get saving.
Thanks Guys.

Analogue sources should be output fine, if they aren't then something's not right. You could run a second set of analogue cables from your CD/DVD player to use when you're listening on the headphones.
Another solution might be to use some sort of phono switch box between the AV32R L/R outputs and your power amp, that way you can switch whether the poweramp or your headphones are used. This would also allow you to control the volume of your 'phones.
Good idea. I haven't tried using an analogue input so I'll give it a go.
Thanks again.
