Anyone else get hit for customs. Both myself and a mate got hit for an extra £10:mad:
I won't be using them again in a hurry.

All Play >£18 import discs are now put aside for Nazi tax. This has been known for a while now.

I stopped ordering >£18 R1's from Play, I've only been done once (LOTR 4 discer) but from comments from usenet, dvdforums & avforums posts it appears most DVD's from Play get caught.

I ordered my LOTR box set from them and didn't get hit, that cost £45.

Oh well, looks like i'll have to sever links with play for R1 dvds after nearly 5 years of doing business, it seems they have been surpassed in both price and delivery.

On another note i'm glad I cancelled my Lion King Gift set from them. They were charging £29.99, I switched to DvdSoon got it for £18 and it came in a week. Play still are shipping theirs.

Can we agree that it's not only >£18 R1 stuff that gets caught - R2 is just as liable since the label on the jiffy bag shows the value, no mention of region, therefore HM Customs can (and usually do) stop everything over £18.

Yes it's only for R1 dvd's.

R2 orders from play should be fine. I think both splashdvd and play put a "tax paid" on the bag when shipping R2 stuff that is over 18quid.

As mentioned above, has anyone else noticed Plays prices have slowly gone up, yes their sale stuff can be spot on, but the new releases don't tend to be as cheap as they were!

I have started ordering more from cd-wow because of this!

I use Play mainly for the special offers that they have but for new releases i tend to use either cd-wow or dvdboxoffice as they tend to be cheaper

R1 speaking this is generally the case. for UKR2 they still have some nice batgains (even new ones) but tend to have a lot less than in their old days. I tend to find stuff a lot cheaper on www.pricestorm.com

Surely, you saw the notice that comes up saying you may have to pay customs. This happens before you are allowed to buy the DVD.

I think amazon are doing that for £15.

They've really sorted themselves out. They used to be like an online whsmith or something (full rrp on everything) but their prices are looking among the best now. I can't find new xbox releases cheaper than amazon or delivered faster. :)

Got my R1 Indy box set from Play and NO tax :) Label shows it was shipped from Brussels so no chance of any tax. Just lucky I guess.

I too have stopped using Play almost altogether now and have switched to CD-Wow's HK site.

Same here.

Also as this has been mentioned many times before, IT IS NOT THE RETAILER THAT IMPOSES CUSTOMS DUTY IT'S THE GOVERNMENT. Although some retailers will offer to refund the charges.
