how does it compare to the German DTS release thats been around for ages already?

Or to the Superbit Version of this disk....

do we really need yet another release of this disk?

I recently found out about this release aswell but I'm waiting to see how the picture and sound stack up against the R1 or R4 superbit release.

If it compares well then I think the extra's could well swing it to getting the 2-disc, if not, then I'll be getting the superbit version... picture and sound win out every time in my book

Regards,

Iain.

I believe it's only ever been released once in this country so far, although with all the versions you can get from other countries it does feel like it.

I am surprised by these comments - I have been hoping for a proper release of this film for years! Great news!

I was a bit surprised myself, but seeing the way that some studios are milking the hell out of some of their more popular titles it's hardly surprising, especially if you own one of the 1st editions.

As technology advances I think it is warrented for new editions to appear e.g. the hi-def version of Terminator 2 was (IMHO) justified, however, for something like a new documentary or a DTS soundtrack that could've easily been put on to the original release I can understand some people's annoyance...

Regards,
Iain.

Having reviewed some recent Pathe releases with less than spectacular transfers, I have a haunting feeling that this will not be anything to write home about in the PQ department. In fact, rumour has it that this will have the exact same transfer as the existing R2, with a DTS track slapped onto it.

Now, while the R2 is highly watchable and a decent transfer, it's no Superbit. I think it's a safe bet that the R1 Superbit will still have the best PQ.

But who knows, maybe they'll surprise us!

I'd certainly wait for some reviews to come out before parting with your cash though

But it's got a dts soundtrack and you know how much better that makes a bad transfer look. It even makes people forget how crap certain films are, not that the Fifth Element is crap as it's one of my fav's. Oh and I'm sticking with my Superbit.

Cool

Not one of my favourites films not help with the well over the top performance of Gary Oldman.
