Do decent TVs exist?

Are there actually any 32" TVs around at the moment that don't suck??

I'm now not fussed about brand, just want a TV with a decent picture

Panasonic PD30 appears to have gone up in price everywhere
Toshiba ZD26P appears to have more problems than anything else!

Any ideas?

Try Loewe. More expensive, but that gives you better quality control and build which eliminates most problems other sets suffer from.

Beovision 3 from Bang and Olufsen is lovely and excllent picture!!!! Choose from 6 colours as well now where else can you get that?

Indeed. On the whole, Loewe TVs do tend to be better. But do not expect perfection. Such a thing does not exist (except by chance). Expect only something that gets closer than others.

Beovision 3 is Very similar price to Loewe especially if you go to Chelsea....

Go have a look at one. Spend £2k on a loewe and possibly regret itor take a look at a Beovision 3 and see if its worth the extra!

PS 12 months 0% and 2 year warranty. so not all bad.

NO

you either pay decent price and get crap (like my Philips 32PW8807 with nice black bars)
perfect TV doesn't exist. it's about getting one which has afault you can live with.

you can also pay a lot more and get more expensive sets. I chose the former as I don't like TVs that are more expensive then our car.

I am also in the market for a 28/32" inch screen and am concerned by many of the quality conrtrol issues highlighred in the various threads about the PD30/ZP38. However is the picutre just being exaggerated by the fact people who are happy with their TVs (even if they have a small and barely noticeable problem) will not post to say so.

Having said that I do think it is apalling that the likes of Tosh and Panny can get away with what are effectively defective products particularly at the top end of the market.

One other point. Why don't these companies produce their top end TVs with a 'basic sound' option given that most people will be adding their own surround sound set-ups? It is probably just a case of extracting as much cash as possible out of the punter but nevertheless it is very annoying.

I am also in the market for a good 32 in set costing around £1k and looked at the Toshibas - I don't want surround sound in my TV

I have a Loewe Aconda 32" and it's as close to TV perfection as I could have hoped for.
The only niggle is I cannot use it to play light gun games on the DC or Xbox. But this is a very minor quibble.
The point raised about surround sound with TV's is a good one. Why should you have to pay for surround with a TV if you do not plan to use it?
The increase of popularity in all in one DVD/Surround sound packages suggests Joe Punter doesn't want or need surround sound with their TV's.

I guess mit's just the same as for DVDs:
make you pay twice for the same.
you buy the barebones then the extrafilled disc. here you buy decoder and speakers and your TV comes with it as well.
you lose they win. they are happy and you can't do anything about it.

If you are feeling rich, then the Loewe Articos is easily the best CRT picture I've ever seen. Costs about £2.5K though!
