Lightbulb External Hard drives

I have a laptop with 40gb, which i'm struggling to cope with after 80gb+ in my old desktop.

Has anyone found a cheap solution to this problem?
I am ideally after at least another 80gb and with the current prices of 3.5" drives it seems silly not to try and build one....

Options i have found:

1.Ready made external ones start at £110 for 80gb (£250 for 250gb)...

2.External 3.5" USB2/firewire case ~£80 plus price of hard drive

3.External 2.5" case for £20, but then limited on size of hard drive!

Am i asking to much for too little?

Any help much appreicated!

Many thanks

If you have a Firewire/USB port on your machine, the Maxtor 200Gb external drive seems to offer very good value and a good solution to your problem...I too have a laptop with a 40Gb drive which is fast filling up,and this seemed like a good option to me....about £220 inc VAT.

Thanks for confirming what i thought and hoped wouldn't be the case!

I'd spotted that range on Ebuyer and they do seem like the best option so far, as i'm no desperate need of extra space (wait till broadband arrives :D) i'll keep an eye on the prices.

Cheers
