hi i thinking of getting a netgem iplayer freeview and getting rid of ntl digital .
for software updates and to surf web i need to connect the iplayer to the net i dont have a dial up isp but i do have ntl broadband in the same room .
so my question is what stuff do i need ? i guess its just a box with 2 or more sockets?
my ntl cable modem has 2 sockets on it 1st. network/ethernet i think and a usb socket can these both be used at same time ?
cheers for any help

You can't use both USB and ethernet from the cable modem.
All you need is a simple hub with 2 or more ports and three lengths of cat5 ethernet cable. Plug the hub into the modem on the uplink connection on the hub, then a cable to your PC and another to your iplayer.
Reset the cable modem so it recognises the hub, then you should be able to connect as usual.
I would recommend you use a switch/router instead for around £50 eg Linksys, as this provides extra security from the internet via NAT (Network Address Translation) and you can add other PCs to your network if required.

I use a Linksys http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=34&scid=29&prid=20 available from PC World or online.
You can also buy printers that are networked, so do not need to be connected directly to a PC.
To reset the modem, either it has a reset button, via software from 192.168.100.1 or pull the mains plug out!
As you have a Plasma, why not use a HTPC with Nebual card, run it into the Plasma VGA and use high resolution for net surfing, rather than the TV res output from the iplayer!
