Hi

I bought AVIA the video/audio set up dvd.
It all is simple enough, especially when I used my digital meter.

The only thing I am having trouble with is my Sub.

I set its frequency to 50 khz, my B&W fronts resopnse goes down to 30KHz. Does this sound correct??

Anyhow, the sub was setup with the dvd, but I have to say that the bass is now well over the top.

SO i have knoched it down a little. I have noticed different disks respond differently to the sub.

I am a bit dim when it comes to speakers - can someone explain what the frequncy, volume and phase means on the Yamaha Sub that i have.

Cheers

Chris

Which speakers are you using...and are they set to small or large, and at what level is the bass cut off set...?

On most subs, frequency refers to the frequency at which the sub is rolled off at,phase allows you to switch between being in phase and out of phase with the other speakers(useful sometimes in removing interactions with the room etc),and volume is simply that.

A good starting point for setting up the sub is as follows:

I would sugest playing some music that you know well during setup as this will give a more consistent sound than a film.

Set ALL the speakers on the receiver to small
Set the sub to YES on the receiver
Set the crossover on receiver to 80Hz
Set the sub crossover to direct if available or set to highest frequency
Set volume to around a third on sub. Keep lowering until the sub can not be heard above anything else.
Set phase to which ever sounds best.

Mark.

Cheers fellas

I am using B&W 601's fro fronts, the CC6 for centre and the VM1's for the surrounds.

The Sub has a volume switch that goes from 1 - 10 (not 11,) :)
The Hz goes from 50Hz to 150Hz.

So are you saying it is best to push the sub all the way to 150Hz and then adjust the volume?

It is worth noting that I only really use the system for movies etc.

Thanks for your comments I really appreciate it.

Cheers

Chris
