Pulse killer - hype or effective?

I see from Home Cinema Choice's news that Philips new Freeview box has "pulse killer" technology that should supposedly suppress those short interference bursts that you often get with Freeview.

Is this technology more than hype? And if so are there any stand-alone pulse killers that you could plug into series between your aerial socket and your Freeview box?
