I have a Panasonic LA95 portable DVD player and a rather nice car which I am not too keen on hacking to pieces. I would like to mount the DVD player on the back of the passenger seat headrest so that my 2 year old can watch it on the move. Is there a product that anyone has seen on the market that does this without damaging the headrest/seat???

Many thanks:confused:

I have a Panasonic lx9. I made a tray out of a plastic box and some straps out of elastic to hold the DVD player in the tray along with some clips that located into some appertures in the base of the unit. I then strap the tray to the centre armrest between the front seats. the box is cut in such a way so that when the screen is opened, it rests against the front of the box to prevent wobble. That way, I have it well away from my toddler who would probably kick it if it was on the back of my seat, but he can see it fine. Okay, a little heath-robinson, but I don't intend using in the car that often. Next thing is to find out how to feed the video into the TV monitor built into my dashboard :-)

An alternative would be to use a seperate screen. i think Maplin sell a small (about 5") TV with a video input, plus a case to mount it on a headrest. You could then just have the DVD player on the floor in the front (i.e. safe!) and just run some cables to the screen.

I have a DVD-LV75 and have thought about using it in the car.

Is it possible to get a power cord which plugs into the cigarette lighter socket?

If so, where would I get one?

Traal,

You should be able to get one direct from Panasonic UK, but I think that they are very expensive . For the Panny portable DVD players I have looked at, they seem to be up to £100!

I just bought an invertor to convert from 12 DC cigar lighter to 240VAC. I think Halfords do one for about £35. I then just use the supplied mains adaptor in the car. I know it is a bit convoluted to conver 12V to 240V and then back to 9V, but it was an awful lot cheaper.

Thanks for the info. £100 is a bit much!

I'm impressed with the innovative solution!

DO the universal headrest adaptors (the ones that screw into the monitors) Work for the flip types?

We did the same thing with our LA95. At the time we had a Land Rover Discovery and the centre console lid flipped all the way back so that the player could sit on top.

Using a two large Velcro straps joined together, we just strapped the player down to the lid. Worked out great until my little girl dropped the unit and shattered the screen, but that’s another story.

While in the states during the summer I bought a Polaroid portable dvd player and at the same time I got a travel bag that hold both it and has slots for DVDs. The best thing is it also turns into an incar holder. Using straps it can sit between the front seats holding the player on flat platform secured with a bracket and velcro strap. It seems to work well and has the added bonus of adding a bit of damping to the dvd when travelling over rough road. The case is made by targus and you could probably get one in the UK as well. Here is the link to the targus site http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=DVD401

Try an invertor 12v to 240 a small one will do the job.... cost around £30, plug your 240v power supply from you portable dvd straight in job done.

Place the invertor in the glove box can be plugged into gig lighter or straight to battery.

Would one of those universal cigarette adaptors not work?
Maplins do a "step down convertor" for £10 which would provide 9v (+ other selectable voltages).
I'm thinking of buying a Panasonic DVDLS50 player but it does not come with a car adaptor. What voltage would this require?
Panasonic adaptors are a bit pricey! (£80). They seem to have a little "box" half way along the cable. Does this contain some kind of electrical wizardry that the cheap Maplins ones don't?

There is a cheaper option to the Targus, made by Case Logic.

Once again, it is a case that has straps that allow it to be mounted to the back of the headrest or suspended between the two front seats (for easier viewing by two rear seat passengers)

Nice material as well - leather effect.
