View Full Version : Wireless audio from PC to HiFi
I know things like this are available in the US - but are any available here in the UK? There is an interesting Linksys device:

But I believe it is not available in the UK yet, and is a bit pricey, and relies on an 802.11 wireless network to be in place.
What I want is something similar to a video-sender, except it will allow me to listen to my MP3's which are on my PC hard-disk. There should also be a remote-control element to this so the tracks can be controlled from a different room.
Anyone know of such a device available in the UK?

The Prismiq looks interesting as well:

This page includes links to several other Media Centre articles on ExtremeTech. One interesting one is the use of a Series 2 TiVo. It wouldn't be any good in this country for it's primary PVR functionality, but it might make a decent media centre.
Cheers,

Thanks for those responses.
These devices are a bit of an ovefkill though - and some aren't even wireless.
All you need is a device which hooks up to the PC via the USB connection and perhaps to the Video card (some sort of loop-through). with a regular 2.4Ghz wireless audio/vidoe sender built in.
The USB part would allow control of the PC from the remote control and issue commands, Special software would then run on the PC to run the video streams at full-screen, and beamed back to the TV. I'm sure that could be done for considerably less money as all the processing is being done on the PC. Just a fancy video-sender really.
I suppose we'll have to wait....

I've been looking around for something to do a similar job. I think what you might be looking for could be:

There's both wireless and standard Ethernet flavours by the looks of it and it doubles up as a CD/DVD player. Whether it's available in the UK or not I'm unsure.
Ive just been reading about the Pinnacle ShowCenter on Tom's Hardware Guide. It will link either wirelessly or by cat5 cable.

Take a look at the Netgear MP101.

that MP101 looks interesting. It looks as though it's a 802.11g device as well so should be fast enough for large files :)
