View Full Version : Can Euro iPods be made louder like the US models?

Hi,
As topic really.
I find the volume on my euro model not unreasonable, but have read that it isn't really suitable for use on a plane or train, due to excessive exterior noise.
I was hoping someone had found a way of overcoming the 100db limit on euro models and bringing them up to the 103db specs of their US equivalents.
Thanks,
Matthew
Yes, there was a recent post on www.slashdot.org on this subject.

Thanks... but i'm running OS X. Never mind... he says he is working on an OS X version, so I'll have to wait for that.
Thanks again

This works for ALL 3rd gen models - even if you use musicmatch - and its free.....
AND IT WORKS!!
My EU iPod is VERY loud!
Rich
quickest way to go deaf, or develop tinnitus is to have headphones volume too high!

Hi Argento
Read with interest your post. I have just got a Euro 40gb Ipod which works a treat with Itunes loaded on my windows XP pc. As most here the only moan is the volume. I will try your recomendation but just wanted to ask, is the lastest version I have the 3rd generation model. Don't want to screw it up my Ipod before I get started.
Cheers
Warren

Surely if you increase the volume of the files themselves, you'll introduce clipping in many cases? That cant be a good thing.
The only other suggestion I can make other than those already made is to use more sensitive headphones.

I used the volume increase program on my Ipod.
Absolutely superb is all I have to say, no distortion whatsoever, no clipping.
I use a pair of Sennheiser PX200 and it sounds superb, more than good enough for the gym, train and stuff.

Would a pair of headphones with better isolation not be a more sensible option than trying to drown out the noise of a Plane?

Quite agree - I have a pair of Sony MDR EX71's and have no problem at all with volume levels. They keep out the noise and i can back off on the volume a bit, even on the tube.

Well, in the end I bought a new 40gb ipod while i was in the US for the equivalent of about £320, so i'm a happy bunny now.
Many thanks for all the advice,
Matthew
