Portable CD/mp3/DVD??

I have an old CD/mp3 player for use in the car via the cassette adaptor, and it's a bit dodgy on mp3's - keeps pausing randomly, then resuming play then stopping again. It's a bit like listening to Norman Collier ;-)

If I'm going to replace it, I was wondering: Is there such a thing as a portable walkman style CD player that will play CD-A, mp3 AND read mp3's burned to DVD-R discs? I suspect not, but if not why not - because then I could have my whole music collection in the car on about 6 to 10 DVD's.....
