DVD Storage Cabinets

Inevitably as my DVD collection has grown the current cupboard has run out of room and I need somewhere else to start storing DVD's. I dont really like having them on display so am looking for a closing cupboard but one that will make good use of space (my current one would be great if it was made for DVD's as it wastes loads of room between shelves).

Have found something vaguely like what I am after on an american site:

I use Billy bookcases from IKEA. The 60x28x302 holds about 300 dvds when you buy an extra couple of shelves. You can also buy doors for them.

I have just baught one from IKEA too, can't remember what
it is called but looks like a book case, but is wall mountable.
It holds 800 cds!!! It costs 75quid, is in oak and DVDs fit
very well.

Why not try making one yourself? All you need are the measurements and a trip to B&Q to get the MDF and have it cut. Then just screw it together (and add doors if required.) You can always paint it or apply a veneer.

I've just made myself a DVD rack from some left over MDF - took one afternoon.

Of course, if you are crap at DIY make sure you don't snip a finger!!

I also use a unit from Ikea, its called a BENNO CD tower, and its shelves can be adjusted to hold CD

Ikea got my vote too.

I wanted my DVDs stored but not on show. The answer was a couple of the Vattern bathroom cabinets with Anordna glass shelves, Vattern Ommen frosted glass door. Bullet door knobs and some interior lights complete the package.

Chris, very smart indeed! Is the unit hanging on the wall or did you digitly remove the feet? Ha.
How deep is the unit?

Kronenbourg, I took a look at 'storeyourmedia.com' and thought it looked a bit too much like office furniture. You can do much better Im sure, and there could possibly be import duty too!

I went for the 19cm deep x 30cm wide cabinets. The depth is just about perfect for DVDs. The height is about 180cm (7.5"x12"x70.5" in old money). They also do a 40cm wide version.

With the lights top and bottom the capacity is about 230~240 discs in total. Without lights you could get another shelf in each side, this would give space for an extra 34 discs.

These cupboards come with fixings to hang them off the wall (so no digital trickery required ). If you want feet they're an option too. The walls in my house aren't great, so I used a couple of wooden battens to get a level surface. This worked well.
