Lawrence of Arabia Superbit

Just seen on play that a superbit version of Lawrence of Arabia is due out in September. Does anybody know if it will fit onto 1 disc rather than split over two like the original release?

it will be a two disc release. released september the 9th, along with Leon dir cut and Hook as superbits.

It should be split discs. You are *supposed* to have an intermission in between. Its how he wanted it

It could hardly be a 'Superbit' if it was squeezed onto a single disc.
I really don't see a problem with long films being spread over 2 discs anyway.

Ok thanks. But Ferris_bueller - you can have an intermission on a 1 disc movie, like spartacus. That doesn't warrant a 2 disc split, only a high quality transfer does in my book.

i have lawrence of arabia which is currently split over 2 discs and cannot see what the superbit has to offer other than a DTS soundtrack (( and a film of this age although 5.1 is more front speaker with the surrounds coming into play for the music so i doubt DTS will add to it )).
The current disc has little in the way of extras and therefore i just cannot see great improvements being made in the picture quality department.

Leon is a great film i have the "uncut" international version which is still missing several minutes of footage which the japanese version contains and its more accurate to call it a special edition rather than a directors cut, The Professional is its american title and thats the version i have, great film but once again the picture quality on the original release is superb and soundwise its more a front 3 speaker job with the rears occasionally firing into life and being used to enhance the scene with music, i'm a huge DTS fan but i'm not going to buy the superbit version of both of these titles as i don't believe the picture or sound will be significantly better to warrant another purchase.

Shakur - but if you have to change discs, it makes you have an intermission. Anyway, just get the wife/GF to do it whilst she comes around selling the ice creams

Leon will be the unrated extended directors cut of the movie.

Will it be different to the Region 1 version i currently own ?

Yeah, The superbit will have no extras, but will have a dts soundtrack. Picture quality SHOULD be better but this may not be the case, we will have to wait and see.

Rumour has it that the Superbit LOA will be a new transfer overseen by Robert Harris - this should therefore be the definitive version of this film on DVD

Here's a quote from the digitalbits regarding the forthcoming
superbit titles.....

They also have a trio of great new Superbit releases on the way, including Léon: The Professional, Hook and Lawrence of Arabia (2-discs). Each will feature high bit rate anamorphic widescreen video and both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround sound. Our own Robert A. Harris, who originally restored Lawrence in the 1990s under the supervision of director David Lean, is personally involved in the transfer and remastering of the new Superbit version, so you can be sure it will be the very best presentation of the film yet released on DVD. We'll hear more from Robert on this in the coming weeks.

I haven't seen the current dvd release of Lawrence of Arabia
so I can't comment on the picture quality. But I do know that
Robert A. Harris has expressed his concerns in the past about
badly transfered video , especially edge enhancement.
