This promotional leaflet came with some copies of the X-Men 1.5 DVD:
http://www.aoue90.dsl.pipex.com/dvddebate/smallpics/aq.jpg
From what i have read, features may include:
ALIENS - Both Original theatrical & directors cut versions
ALIEN3 - New David Fincher redux
ALIEN4 - New opening & ending
Not sure what the ALIEN disc will feature though
Also, all the films will have THX remastered video/audio transfers & DTS audio tracks
but will it be any better than the original set which was, lets face it, pretty good! Hopefully there wont be too much messing around with edge enhancements and such

I have pre ordered this form DVDSoon for about 32 quid:grin: . I did have all four films on DVD already, so I am one of those gullible morons who buys things over and over. But I managed to sell the old lot for about 18 quid, so that covered half the cost.
When is it released? I can't find it on the sites I normally buy R1s from

Sometime in November I believe
Thanks. I had a look on a couple of Canadian sites and the release date was 10/11.

Does anyone know if this set will include the option to watch the theatrical release of Alien 3? I know it's getting a 'delux' extended version but I woudl also like to watch the original. I believe Aliens is going to have this option but what about Alien 3? If they've missed this out it would seem to be a major omission in an otherwise perfect set.
Dunno about you guys but to me Alien 3 and Resurrection just ruined the whole series.

I think most fans will agree with you. Alien 3 was OK but is much weaker than Alien/Aliens. Alien: Resurrection however is just too over the top - a clone of Ripley, a half alien-half human Ripley, a alien thinking Ripley was her Mom and as near as the Alien saga will get to a happy ending!?!
I'll be interested to see how Aliens Versus Predator works out. The games were very enjoyable - and AvP2 had a decent story attached - so the film MAY work. Heres hoping...
i have to say i thought resurrection was highly entertaining, it may not have been as good at the 1st two, but compare it to many recent releases and it isnt so bad!

I thought Alien3 was a fitting way to end the alien series with sigourneys character going full circle and unlike films made today no cop out ending, alien resurrection took the p i s s and should never have been made with sigourney, i'm really lookin forward to seeing what they can do with this new version of alien3.
DTS soundtracks yayyyyyyyyyyy :)

I for one cannot wait for the 170m version of Alien 3. I just wish that Fincher would embrace this opertunity to show the version of the movie that he wants, and not Fox's chopped up (but still very good) mess.

Loved Resurrection apart from the final monster. Bit cheesy.
I havent laughed so much as when the monster got sucked out the window..... almost as good as when goldfinger got sucked out

The problem with Resurrection is that it takes things too far and just isn't believable. Consider also that the budget of the first two films were considerably lower than the last two, and look at the end result?:p

I didnt like 3 at all. I have tried to rewatch it couple of times, but it leaves me cold. Ressurection was entertaining but not a patch on 1 and 2.
Talk of Alien 5 seems to crop up from time to time, anyone know the latest on it?
i agree that 3 would be the worst by a long way...... i was barely entertained. Had 3 really got a bigger budget than 2? Aliens looked really quite big budget to me

Hi buns - I was intrigued by this, so a quick look on imdb reveals :
BUDGETS
Alien (1979) - $11,000,000
Aliens (1986) - $18,500,000
Alien³ (1992) - $50,000,000
Alien: Resurrection (1997) - $70,000,000
And rather interestingly : Sigourney Weaver's salary for "Alien:Ressurection" was more than the entire cost of the original "Alien" movie.
Unsure how to convert these into "today's" fugures though !
that amazes me...... for 18.5 M there was a hell of alot in Aliens!

True, it definitely looked a lot more expensive than it was.
Driver8, cheers for those figures. It's amazing isn't it? It goes to show it's all in the craft of the director and not to amount of money. I'm sure you buffs must have heard the Ridley Scott's commentary for the 20th Anniversary Alien DVD. In the scene where Kane finds the egg he says he used his hands to create the movement inside the egg. He said you could spend hundreds of thousands just on that, but what's the point when you can do it probably even better for nothing.

Alien3 would have been better if the studio had let David Fincher get on with it himself. They hired him as a new talent and countered every directorial decision he made, as he wasn't making the film they wanted made. Suprised it didn't become an Alan Smithee film...
Jean-Pierre Jeunet had similar concerns while making Alien4.

In a recent interview in Empire magazine James Cameron mentions that he has had talks with Ridley Scott about doing a proper finale to the series. Historically, Sigourney Weaver has always been keen on RS, as is a certain Mr Hans Rudi Giger who reckons the only member of the 'artistic community' worth working for without getting shafted in the process is that nice Mr Scott. Somewhere in that little lot is the makings of a blockbuster to rival LOTR and Matrix, but who's got the balls to take the risk and make it happen?

I agree with most, Resurection was Awful IMHO. But I have to defend 3 a little. As good as Aliens was/is, it's a completely different animal to the original. Dark brooding chiller versus all out action fest. Both superb in their own rights. I always thought 3 returned us to the original feel and although it didn't cover any new ground and was compromised by the studios interference (boy did they pay for that), I think it still stands up well within the trilogy, even though universlly accepted as the 3rd best. I completely disregard Resurection as an Alien film, I see it as a Babylon5 type offshoot that can never compete in the same class.

Well, here's the latest on Alien 5 from Dark Horizons which was
also on ch4 teletext.......
Terminator 3 & Alien 5: James Cameron recently talked with BBC1 and revealed he's very happy with how Terminator 3 ended up: "In one word : Great. There was a small part of me that hoped it wasn't good - but another part of me hope'd it succeeded. And it did. And I'm so glad it did. Jonathon's made a great movie. Arnold's in great form. I really like what he's done with it". If he had done it, would he have handled it differently: "Yes. That's only natural. I mightn't have structrued it the same, nor may I have ended it the same way - but coming in where he has, such a hard thing to do, and I give Jonathan points for it".
This isn't a man whose going to whitewash his opinion either, take for example his reaction to "Alien 3" - "Hated it. Simple as that. I hated what they did.... I couldn't stand Alien 3 - how they could just go in there and kill off all these great characters we introduced in aliens, and the correlation between mother and daughter. It stunk, but hopefully I'll get a chance to rectify all that". You mean the talk about him being tied to "Alien 5" is true? "To an extent. yes. We're looking at doing another one. Something similiar to what we did with Aliens. A bunch of great characters, and of course Sigourney. I've even discussed the possibility of putting him [Arnold Schwarzenegger] into the Alien movie". Thanks to 'Ryan'.
Does anyone know when the interview will be shown on BBC1?
Thats good to hear from James Cameron.
If Alien 5 could be the follow on to Aliens and ignore the travesty of Alien 3 and to a lesser extent Alien 4 that would be great.
Certainly be looking forward to Alien 5 with him involved.
