I hope some one can explain something.
I have a Region 1 dts and a Region 2 version of Jaws.
Anywhere I have checked it states that there are no cuts between the two versions.
I don't have the time to sit down and compare the two versions.
Region 1 states that the running time is 125 mins and Region 2 states that the running time is 119 mins.
Is there any difference in the two films?

PAL is 4% fast- the original is NTSC which is the correct speed- PAL transfers aren't (from the american video source)
Info on Jaws.

My brother has Jaws DD, IMO it's a bad mix. They should have included the original mono.

Okay the thing I don't understand is:
A minute is a minute. Does the Pal version play faster?
I don't understand.

All I know is that for 100 minutes on a R1 DVD shot by the americans- it plays at the correct speed.
When it's converted to PAL, it's sped up by 4%. So it'll be 96 minutes. If you're really pitch sensitive you'll hear the increase in pitch (when you speed it up really fast people sound like a chipmunk)
Some converted NTSC to PAL releases are corrected- however it doesn't say that on the back.
When the source is one of our releases (say The Young Ones) the PAL DVD will be at the correct speed.
The total number of video frames is the same for the R1 and R2. The reason the R2 version ends quicker is because it runs at 25 frames per second compared to the R1 that runs at 24 fps.

Well, I'd like to thank all of you for explaining something that I knew nothing about.
Thank you.
